So I got a quote from AutoInnovations in Milpitas to get my springs and shocks installed for $330. But they also quoted me $430 to install springs and shocks in my brother's 2004 A4 because they said the suspension is different and more difficult to work with. Is there truth to this?

SFG can do the suspension install :)

...yes, there is truth to the rumor that different cars, with different suspensions, will take different amount of time to do the install. For example, Eugene and I did a StaSIS street sport coilover install on a B6 A4 1.8TQ this past saturday. That install, due to coilover adjustments took us more time that we had anticipated..and we ended up making considerably less per hour than normal. Why, because the rear coilover perch needed to be moved considerably...and to move it when it was in the car was too difficult. We had to remove the rear spring to adjust it. We also had to use spanner wrenches for 22 turns on the right front...if anyone has ever used spanner wrenches..you will know that 22 turns..at 1/6 turn per movement...takes a long time to do.

At SFG we quote differently for different types of suspension.

i know a mechanic that can do it for cheap. cheaper than dsr and auto innovations. I got mines done with alignment for about 1/3 of the price that most shops were charging (i have a fwd though so he might charge more for quattro).. pm me if you want his contact info. he works for the toyota dealership in palo alto and can do installs/work on his days off..

Miata itch...? Is that like a disease or somethin? Hey, come on out to the track and watch us race. I will be at Thunderhill on Sun/Monday...this weekend. In a couple of months I will be racing during the ALMS weekend...we Spec Miatas get a chance to be at the track with the big boys. It will be totally crazy with about 70 Miatas on track at the start. I can't wait.

I'd go with Autoplus in DC. Phillip is really good about pricing. They might take just a little bit longer but it's worth the savings plus he's got Hunter machine for alignment!!!

Prolly about $300 with alignment. Tell him that Angelo sent you. Or, pm me, we can talk and I'll call Phillip and tell him that you're gonna be rolling through.
