Not mad, jealous.
I am 36 and have a 05.5 A4, 03 suby forrester 2.5 xs, 94 Toyota pickup, 84 pinifarina Spyder.
I only have payments on the audi, but working hard to keep it. I am saving every little bit of money I don't spend on my house, my wife, and my adopted nephew to purchase mods for it. But it is all happening very slowly. I wish I could have had all those cars when I was 16, although I was pretty happy and well grounded with working to afford my chevy spectrum. At the time it was the best car because it was mine.
cheers.

Just to balance things off a bit....
Age: 35
Cars: 1996 993 C4S, 1998 993 C4S (race car) and 2006 Volvo V50.
Selling all three cars and buying 2 used Audi A4 2.0T
I've been privileged to have done well and been able to afford owning a number of nice cars in my time including 2 Audis (S6s), 3 Mercedes (2 SLs, 1 S), 3 BMWs (318is, M3 cab, M5), 7 Porsches (one Boxster, 5 911s, 1 930), 2 Range Rovers (Sport SC, Sport) and 1 Maserati Grand Sport among other less noteworthy cars.
I also bought my first car, a 1980 Chevy Citation for $1,380, when I was 15, yes, before I got my license, with money I made working at a restaurant. I bought a two year old RX7 less than a year after when I had saved up more money. I'm very fortunate to have a dad who is self made and taught me how to earn my own way. It's too bad so many people are deprived of this privilege but hey, if my dad had handed over the keys to a new Audi when I was 16, I wouldn't have said no.

I developed a LOT of humility with my first car... a 1989 Dodge Aries. Yes, my dad did pay for it, but I don't consider being too spoiled by him paying $1500 for that in 1998. I was grateful though, it developed quite the little reputation amongst my buddies.

I'm 17, and previously drove a Scion tC. I loved that car to death, but had no sense of mortality. I drove like a little, spoiled god damn idiot, and I ended up rolling it at 100mph.
http://a574.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/48/l_dde91d1a4c9d762a285bfc3ac6534d4d.jpg
After this, I decided that if I drove again, i'd like a nicer car that I won't hot-rod, that I could make payments on to make me realize I can't be handed everything. I found my Audi on autotrader at the beginning of December, and I loved it.

Wow you guys are crazy.. how do you stuff like that? At least your okay, your car looks really bad.
I was pretty stupid too when I was 17 and I still am a little bit, but I don't think I'd ever gotten to the point where if I messed up, I would ruin my car that badly. I did stupid shit IN my car though, not with it.

is this really the age sampling of the a4 b7 forum??
Actually a4 2.0t quattro is a pretty good car for a new driver, not too powerful, great in all conditions.
quite jealous I must say..i stick with one car at a time til the wife finishes med school and i put a few more year of hard work in. Then hope to have a few options in the garage. And down the road I hope to be in the position to buy my kid a nice new audi

I think part of the reason people are so negative and resent teenagers having such nice cars is related to how dumb they look when they talk about it. Take some time to spell and maybe people won't be so hostile. There are a good amount of people on here who are young and were given Audis but don't draw attention to themselves as because they take the time to capitalize, punctuate, and not sound like some dumb spoiled kid.

01-29-2008, 05:13 AM
ok, my fault. i dont want to make a stereo type of young spoilt teens by the way i use slang when i write. im not dumb nore spoilt just a fortunate kid. i dont drive like a boy racer, dont show off and never would try to make people jelious. I just have a nice car and dont like people thinking all teens are crazy and spoilt.

As I said before in my previous post, my dad was self-made and though he could afford to buy me a new car when I was 16, I was fortunate that I was taught work ethic at an early age and encouraged to buy my own toys with proceeds from my labor. I wouldn't have turned down a new car if it was handed to me but this is the attitude that can develop when undeserving kids (that clearly don't even earn the cars bought for them with good grades (see the many examples of horrid grammar in this thread)) get a new shinny car when they turn 16:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=406146
I realize a 200HP Audi is not the same as a 500HP M5 but the point here is that teens who get things handed to them are at greater risk of making stupid mistakes (not talking down here, that's just part of being a teen) because they don't have as great of an opportunity to learn how to be accountable and responsible to themselves and others.

ok ok ok. at the end of the day its not about kids being given cars its how they treat the cars they get! there could be a really spoilt kid that gets a car that doesnt deserve it but is cautious behind the wheel, also there could be a kid Brought up perfectly and deserves a nice car 100%...gets it and drives him and his mates off a cliff speeding showing off.
imo kids should have old beaters for there first car so they learn road sense and become gratefull for what they get. If you get a kid a nice car at a young age there expectations will be too big at an early age and expect only the best!!
Even if you are self made or what ever i think everyone should start off low n work there way up when they learn responsibility and have road sense!

Allow me to share my high school experiences. When my classmates were getting their licenses, their parents were buying them everything from 3-series, Infiniti's G20s and QX4s, Land Rovers, Corvettes, and C-classes (audi's were not popular back then). Now...these kids were not "good kids" as you all claim to be.
Long story short....8 years later they have not amounted to anything because they never wanted to work hard because they became accustomed to their parents providing everything. The same invidiviuals now hold low-paying (if any jobs), drive around in jalopies, and have also gained 30-40lbs and are starting to go bald. Surely, this will not happen to all of you, but this has been very entertaining for me as I run into these people around town.

Yeah man, I hear you on that, happens all the time. I was in my "hometown" for Christmas, buying some stuff at Target and was approached by some dude asking if I needed any help with the Ipods. I recognized him as a "privileged" someone I went to school with. So ten years later there they are. Now they have to work hard for not much. I work my ass off, but 6figs justifies it.

acctually the statement about kids in california who are fortunate a audi is considered normal for my age.
i go to a private school and im 16, kids are very fortunate and so am i, i did not get my audi as soon as i turned 16 i had to drive a silblings car, until i walk out at a freinds house realizing that half of my car is on the other side of the rode (hit and run of course), with the insurance money and the sibling off to college needless to say i purchased an audi. But i know its self contradicting but i know kids with 80-100 thousand dollar cars.
it is pure disgustment when you think about it, because later in life, what is their to look forward to.

I'm 22, Drive a 2006 Audi A4 TQM Black on Black, leasing through audi financial. It was a gift to myself for landing my first big boy job.
Previous Cars - 2006 A3 TM (traded in on the A4) bought as another gift to myself for graduating college. Before that i had a 1994 Passat VR6, with 280k miles, that i paid 1000 bucks for when i turned 17. Took me a long time working at kmart to make enough money for the purchase and a years worth of insurance money.
As far as the spoiled kids, now that I live in columbus I see it everywhere. Talking to my salesman at MAG, he said a kid and his mother came in on his 16th birthday and order an S4. He says it happens all the time selling S4's and RS4's like that. There's also a 18 year old kid in town with a 911 GT2 with GT30's and over 700 AWHP, that his parents bought him for his 17th birthday. I used to envy kid's who were handed everything in life, nice cars, toys, you name it. Now I laugh at them because when you grow up and become mature, you see these kid's still living with their parents, they don't do anything in life, no job, still immature, they wrecked their car's so many times their parents finally refuse to buy them new ones. They basically turn into a bunch of losers. I'm not saying it happens to every spoiled kid, but the majority will.
To the spoiled kid's on this forum, at least you had a little class and went with an Audi. You would be the perfect stereotype if you got an EVO or STI, or some souped up ricer, but you broke the mold so I congratulate you on that.

I buy all my things...and i hate taking money from my parents...but my car was one thing that my parents and grandparents WANTED to buy for me.... i wanted an old GTI but once again...they wanted me to be safe. I have a job and i pay for gas, insurance , mods , repairs etc. SO before all you older people who are pissed off becuase you had to pay for your car and I didint start hatin on me......keep your mouth shut and remind yourself that you dont know me.
btw...to the 17 year old dude who rolled his scion going 100...your an idiot...and thanks for making kids our age look bad...how about you be a little more responsible....

The B7 A4 was a top safety pick [:D].
I'd rather put my kids in something new with all of the latest safety tech(Volvo, Saab, Audi) instead some old rust bucket in an attempt teach them the value of a dollar.
The older Volvo's aren't very safe by today's standards either

Im with you A4ItaliaGT, i turn 18 in two weeks. i used to make the payments but then rowing took up most of my time. My dad acknowledges that my full time job is being a student and then an athlete. So he pays for it. He only pays a hundred bucks a month for it anyway, my aunt who is very generous to me pays for it. But you cant hate on all kids for having a nice car and consider us spoiled. I mean my car literally doesn't have any options which is why i am paying to modify it to my liking.

i never asked if you got a ticket or violation, either have I, i dont glorify in it.
You also did prove my point proving and stating that you do not go the speed limit which in other words is speeding which in other words is dangerous stated by your states law. Most people may agree, including you that the law is to slow and the roads are built for greater speeds. not pointing at you or saying you suck at driving, but having no tickets or accidents or anything does not make you a smart driver, its not an accusation, make that a fact and ill beileve it, but the guy who got in the crash may of thought he was a "smart driver" and when i say may i emphazise the "may", and so do you, does that mean your going to flip ur car going 100, hopefully not, but dont bash other people, he now learned and one more person to educate mindless people about driving.

i get what you're trying to say but you're totally missing the boat with your examples. any reasonable person with an IQ higher than a doorstop knows the difference between going 5-10 above the speed limit and going 50 over.
a smart, law abiding driver may go 5-10 over the limit and isn't really considered to be "breaking" the law.
... and i'm not sure where youre from, but around here someone that drives 100 on a 55 and considers himself a smart driver is instantly classified as a retard.

.. oh, and to get back on topic.
I'm 22 and am paying off my 2007 A4 - in a way, my parents helped me get it by purchasing my first car when I was 17 (which I traded in towards the Audi). I will admit that the only reason I can afford my car is because I was lucky enough to have my parents cover my school tuition (I have no outstanding debt / student loans outside of car financing).

I'm 14 and 3 quarters and I have a 2007 audi a4 (my grocery getter), porsche 911 gt2 (when I feel like taking out my middle school girlfriend or crusin' for chicks), a 2000 s4 stage 3 (my daily), and a range rover (just in case it snows).
I'm actually 19 and I paid for my car, plus all my mods and all the labor, which I do myself to save money. I don't pay insurance, my parents cover that, as long as I get a b+ average in school, which is hard considering I'm pre-med. I motivate myself to do well because I know I like nice things, and I need to go to school to afford them. Whenever I feel like slacking, I look up at the porsche 911 model on my desk for inspiration. The good thing about my parents, even though they have money, they rarely give it to me. They want me to work hard for it just like they did, and even though it sucks sometimes, I thank them for giving me a work ethic.

I'm glad the older folks spoke up, and that the majority of new Audi owners aren't teens. No offense to the youngins, but I like to think that A4s and S4s are still for us more mature men and women (OK well, 20-30 range anyway). [:)]
Age: 32

How: Worked my ass off for all of em.
I'll be 25 soon and my first car was an old 1990 Mazda RX-7 non-turbo which was a gift and still miss till this day. I bought my second car a 1993 Mazda RX-7 twin turbo which I still own. If you want to consider what my parents have issued me to drive over the years:
1995 Ford Windstar (ultimatum:learn to drive a std. or...see underneath it)
1993 Nissan Maxima SE 5spd
1995 GMC YUKON 4X4 XLT
1995 Mercedes-Benz C 280
1999 Mercedes-Benz C 280 Sport
2006 Audi A4 2.0TQ6MT
I'm not spoiled, I had a list of strict criteria to meet in order to have the cars and damn it did I meet them (I took better care of them than they did). Held a job since I was 16, got good grades, stayed in school, etc., worked my ass off for them and don't feel the least bit guilty about it.
But for those that wanna hate anyway the first car that was mine was the 1999 Mercedes that I took over payments on THE DAY I graduated from college. The first car I ever bought with no help (not even a co-sign) was the Audi. Brand new, all on my own credit, with my own money. I just turned 26 last month.

That fast? Really?
I actually know what a hard/soft inquiry is, APR, Debt to Income ratio, how limitless credit cards aren't the best thing to your FICO score, I know that they're different types of FICO scores( Auto Enhanced, Mortgage Enhanced ), I know what a "Subprime" loan is. I know how to freeze my credit profile from being pulled without my consent, I know that you can have collections easily removed from your credit report with a simple debt validation letter and 30 days of your time, I know that it's not good to open up a lot of trade lines before shopping for any sort of credit card or loan.
I don't need google.

1991 Nissan 240SX- Mod list would take a day to put together..I invested over 25K into this car since 06. Paid 400 for the car its self. Yes all my own money. Its a show car basically.
2006 Mercury Milan Premier- Got it for 11K on Ebay from a dealiership in Michigan. Someone broke into it and stole the airbags and some other stuff. Bought it, fixed it, still clean title and under factory warranty. Great car for trips and business. All options minus AWD.
1993 Mercedes Benz 300E- Black on Black with AMG dish wheels and lowered with black tint. Its what i call my gangsta ride ahhaha..bought this my self as well..love it for everything it is.
2000 Audi A4 1.8TQM- Bought this in 2003 with my own money. Paid 10K for it then and it had 30K on the ODO..love it. Black with cream seats and sports package.

Ok...to start this off I'm very skeptical about some of these kids posting here...I know some are telling the truth and, like everywhere, some are lying. My hat does go off to those who have worked hard and earned their cars, whether you're 16 or 60...But I have to criticize those that outwardly brag about parents buying them cars, you didnt work for it so it will never feel as good as looking in your garage and seeing a car that you can honestly say "and this is why I put in that overtime all summer." Granted some will see it as jealousy and some will see it as hate, but it exists, some people just leave their parents house less prepared(still dependent on parents.) I also respect kids who don't brag about the cars their parents buy them, some even feel bad about driving a car they didn't pay for, that shows good character.

1982 Mustang GT (project car, pushing 700HP)
1999 Mustang GT (another project car, restored from junkyard)
-favorite mode of xportation- co-ownership of a 1990 Cherokee 140 airplane :)
got 4-wheeler, snowmobile, motorcycle, and boat...but everyone does up here...lol
I've paid for everything I have thanks to a GREAT job I landed at the airport, I work 60+ hours a week and go to college during the winter full time...phew, longest post I've ever written...lol
-EDIT-
I do have to add, I credit my uncle with helping me build up the mustangs, I paid for the projects but he was a Ford mechanic for 34 years so he's good at that stuff. and another thing, my parents wouldn't even cosign on my first car (the Accent), I wasn't even able to get a car until almost my 19th birthday because of this, they did not want me to work during highschool so I bummed around with friends and my BMX during the summer. I don't regret lacking a car because I never really needed one, a bike could get me almost anywhere I needed to go, good excersize as well.

I will be 18 in July
At 16 I recieved my first car, a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT, which I still have. My dad had passed away a year before that and I had enough to pay for the whole car from the death benefits. However, my godfather stepped in and said he did not want me to spend it and bought the car for me. The money went into a college fund
Now I am looking to sell the Explorer and purchase a b7 a4. After I sell the explorer, I will owe about 12k. I am paying 5k, my mother/godfather are paying 5k for a graduation present, and the last 2k is from my college savings, which I don't need as much of right now, as I will be going to college on a 4 year NROTC scholarship.
EDIT: In the garage is also a 2003 Lexus ES300 (mom's car)

What i'm saying isn't really hating , I'm just speaking my mind.
Anyways back on point.

I'm very interested in learning how you can afford to pay the insurance on that 1000whp mustang along with all the other cars. If mommy/daddy have to help you with any sort of payments, like insurance, on the car, it is not really yours. Plus, unless you are 18, nothing is really yours anyways since you are not legally an adult.

It's not the kids who are given audi's that I don't like, it's the kids who are given audi's, bmw's, corvettes, and 5 other cars. And it's not the fact that they own all those cars, if the person was really humble and down to earth and didnt act like his shit don't stink, then I wouldn't mind. However, anyone who owns multiple expensive cars at 16 years old is most likely a douchebag.

I agree 100%. I don't care if someone has something nice, whatever that may be. It's when it's a child, being boastful goes around taking credit for what Mommy or Daddy has done. I'll high-five your Dad for being successful, but I sure do not respect someone who takes hand-outs, they have earned nothing. I've had a job since I was 14. Of course the people who have done things on their own are going to laugh at these guys.

when you graduate highschool before you turn 16 - you have to work for it. i got my car at 18 because i was away for a year at college prep and just got my liscense. next time lets not jump to conclusions.
I love it when people post their parent's cars when the thread asks what cars you have. I was brought up with the mindset that you don't own anything unless you paid for it yourself and your parent's stuff is theirs and not yours, even if you think you "earned" it. I'm 31 years old, should I post what my father and mother drive even though I have my own home? [rolleyes]
I'm probably making too much of a big deal about this, I just have an aversion for rich kids throwing their parent's stuff in people's faces, which I experienced going to private schools all my life. Not saying everyone posting their parent's rides are spoiled, it just reminds me of them.

i threw in what my parents for a couple of reasons 1. i still live at home (just turned 18) 2. im proud of my parents and what they have. its not like they inherited the money, my dad came here when he was 14 from gibraltar working as a busboy at a local pub, and worked his ass off to get his own buisness off the ground and worked his way up to where he is now (he is a partner in disney/pixar) i take what my father has as an example of what sacrifice/hard work can do for you. dont hate- be inspired. anyone is capable of doing great things, not just my dad.

All great and dandy, except for one thing...you have nothing to be proud of. Pride means having a high view of one's self and/or your own. Unless you've directly contributed to your parent's financial success, it might be more accurate and reasonable to say you're inspired or humbled by them. To say you're proud (the opposit of humility) of them implies a great deal of arrogance on your part.

if you read my post you would have realized that i wasnt being the least bit arrogant. i was complimenting my father on his accomplishments, how you brought arrogance in to it, i still dont know. "proud" can be used in different ways, if a person is proud of himself that would imply arrogance, but if a person is proud of SOMEONE ELSE i dont see how "a great deal of arrogance" can come into play let alone arrogance at all. thank you for turning this thread into a grammar class.
O and fyi i DID directly contribute to my fathers success with Disney's Pixar- im currently one of the leading graphics designers in my department. So please take your hating somewhere else.

1) Thread title is Re: how old are you and wat cars do you have not how old are you and what cars does your daddy drive.
2) You said "I'm proud of my parents and what they have" and then you write "i wasn't being the least bit arrogant". I did read your post but you either didn't read mine or you just don't understand. Don't worry, one day you will.
3) Clearly you don't know the meaning of the word pride. Might serve you well to look it up before you engage in a public discussion where you state your opinion of the meaning as opposed to the actual meaning.
4) Though it is in severe need of correction, I never commented on your grammar. I simply commented on the fact that unless your parents have benefited financially from you, saying you are proud of them is arrogant. BTW, while on the subject, how is it that you managed to graduate from HS at 15 when you write like this:
when you graduate highschool before you turn 16 - you have to work for it. i got my car at 18 because i was away for a year at college prep and just got my liscense. next time lets not jump to conclusions.
5) I'd love to find out how much you had to do with your dad's success. I venture to guess that an 18 y/o "leading designer" who still lives at home has more to gain from a parent who is a "partner" at Disney/Pixar than the other way around.
Anyway, good luck kid. [up]

[rolleyes]

Looks like he hooked you up, and not the other way around. I'm sure Pixar considers EVERY artistically talented high school grad when looking for artists and your father's position had nothing to do with it. [/sarcasm?] I'm not saying you aren't talented, but in this business (entertainment... the same business I am in) it's who you know as much as what you know.
Count yourself lucky that you had a shot at working at Pixar when there are others more talented than you somewhere in the world who are at smaller, less prestigious places. I don't doubt that you must have some talent to be working there, but believe me, there is ALWAYS someone more talented than you.
Nothing wrong with taking advantage of a prime situation, but part of the price of that "in" is how others perceive you especially when you give up information. I would never reveal that my father was a big-shot/manager/partner in the company I work in. People automatically respect you a little bit less because you didn't pay your dues or struggle to get where you are. That assumption may be wrong, but people aren't perfect and you have to realize that.
Fact: You have more to prove. Being "proud" isn't a good start if you want real integrity. it might not be fair, but that's how the world works. Remember, not many people have real integrity and humility, hardly anyone does that's why we love seeing people like Paris Hilton and Ashley Simpson fall on their faces once and awhile.
Believe it or not, pride is a very slippery slope and is skewed towards arrogance. It's actually a very complicated sociological occurrence that, in most cases, is used to feel or project dominance or superiority over others, even if you are proud of someone else. For example, I'm proud of my little sister for taking AP classes in high school. Why? Because it's "above average" for her to do that compared to some of her other classmates. It's an acknowledgment of some form of superiority over someone else.
Take your dad for example. What about the other immigrants who have not done as well as your father? Maybe they work 50hrs a week struggling to feed their family. Is your father better than them because he drives a Porsche? Should they feel inferior to your father?
THAT is why pride is one of the seven deadly sins.

Very well said, and i agree with you 100%. what i was looking for from louis j wasnt hate. You both pretty much said the same thing, except the way you put it, made it alot easer to understand and accept. You spoke like a very sensible person (without his head up his ass like louis j) , and you explained and noted that pride is a complicated subject and is easily misunderstood. What louis j was doing was telling me that im arrogant with intention of putting me down, whereas you, rather then telling me that im an arrogant piece of shit, you explained to me why i might come off as so. All i wanted from him was to stop the hate.
In regards to the fact that in the entertainment buisness its who you know and not what you know, i agree with you again. But that does not mean that im not qualified. Ive been around my fathers work from a very young age and got to learn tricks of the trade that not many people had the chance to learn, and the fact that i graduated with honors at such a young age also helped prove my worthiness. Are there people out there more talented than i am? YES, does that mean im not good enough at what i do to have a position here, NO. Im sorry if i came off as arrogant, i didnt mean to. JMG thanx for not being an asshole.

lol. So I have no idea what pride means despite the fact that it's clearly you who is misusing the term? Pick up a dictionary dude. And BTW, just because you explain something doesn't make it fact, it just means you have an opinion. [rolleyes]
but your only obvious interest is to pick on 18 year old kids.
Really? I'm curious, how is it that you came to that conclusion? Where are the other posts where I "pick" on 18 year olds specifically because of their age?
Take your arguments someplace else, i dont give a shit what you say or think, and niether does anybody else here. Have a great day!
Obviously you're oblivious to this so let me explain things to you. This is a public forum. If you don't like comments directed at you, YOU should leave. Furthermore, I don't think you're in a position to speak for anyone else but yourself.

I'm trying to figure out if you're threatened or just offended. Any halfwit can read my original post and realize that I was neither judgmental nor offensive. I simply said "you have nothing to be proud of" and I explained why. That's called being direct. The fact that you reacted defensively and took it to the point of referring to my posts as "hating" (what a moronic term that is) and that you imply that I have my head up my ass, or that my intention is to put you down or that I said you were an arrogant piece of shit [confused] speaks far more eloquently about who you are that all the BS that keeps coming out of you. One thing that's become fairly evident is that your handle suits you very well.

Not too long but it's for a roadside company...and the hours i put in during the school year cover my monthly payments and $100 of insurance with maybe 2 full tanks for the month..enough for me to get to school, lunch, back to school, work, gym and home...now that its summer i had a great increase in hours which hopefully ill be getting my stasis COs within the next 3 weeks or so...trying to do more "cheaper" mods though lol and ive actually been into the VW scene before I leased this car and looked into a GTI so i was really saving towards that...but once i saw the TI pkg on ibis white...i had to find a way to get it...i guess you could say its a matter of luck when i landed this job...otherwise id be on vortex with a CW GTI instead of az with a ti a4...

Lucky teenagers driving "fancy" cars. Seriously, I envy you all because I was driving an old Toyota Celica with no A/C when i was 16.
Anyhow, I'm an "old guy" (at least compared to most of you) at the age of 29. Currently in MY(emphasis on the "my") garage:
'06 B7 2.0T 6MT Quattro
'07 Subaru Forester XT
'05 Acura RL
'07 Triumph Daytona 675
'05 Ducati Monster S2R 800
Previous Rides:
'04 BMW 330ci
'02 Lexus RX300
'01 Lexus IS300
1990 Toyota Celica 5spd Manual with no A/C (went through high school and college together)
You young guys with a B7, enjoy it, but give some respect to those who've worked hard to get theirs (not saying you didn't either). When my Acura goes bye-bye, in it's place will be a nice little Ibis White B8/S5. I figure I deserve a coupe in memoriam to the Celica.

I'm older than Louis (or "Bob") and my parents are old and live in TX. A couple of pickups, an old Bronco and a Tahoe. I really have no problem with parents buying their kids cars, and frankly every time a thread like this comes up it turns into a hate festival. Most of the youngsters running around AZ with parent purchased rides seem OK, seems like its a few others with some serious resentment issues. There are plenty of tools on here that bought their own cars. I have some pretty nice cars, but for the purposes of this exercise, I really like my B7 and spend more time driving it than all the others.

Last year when I was car shopping, insurance for a 17 year old in a GTI was going to be $4200 a year... [headbang] I was two steps away from getting a Red or United Grey one. I fell in love with the car, and was pretty depressed when at first they said they wouldn't even insure me in one.
Now being 18 and driving a 4 door awd car with the highest NHSA rating possible (taking this off the top of my head, don't crucify me), my insurance is $2100 a year. Exactly half of the GTI. [o_o] And i'm just as happy in this car too, after a few mods.

Oh, and it's called living in America where you can go under your parents insurance as a co-owner. I got my car when I was 17(18 now) and my insurance isn't bad at all, and you don't need to be rich to own a b7 and pay for it buddy, so stop thinking that we are all "rich little boys" especially since your 35, trolling teh internzets and QQing about insurance.

I joined the army when I was 17...I earned everything myself. I was raised by my great grandparents and they died before I turned 16. I got nobody to help me. Did everything myself. Bought my first brand new Audi at 21 years old. I'm gonna be 26 in August.
Insurance is not hard to get even though you're young.
self made good on you mate.

Since I was 23 I have owned both my Audi & my Grand cherokee, my combined insurance a month is $115 including both cars....
32 Wify and I have:
2000 Civic Dx
2005 Ninja ZX12R

Have owned but sold (1979 450 SLC - was a university graduation gift, 2002 Jeep Wrangler lifted locked and geared paid for myself)
Payments on the A4. No help from anyone.

Profiteering, is how your country is where it is today. Don't think the UK for a second throughout it's history was moral and ethical. Tell me something, how in 1919, you guys controlled 50% of the world oil reserves(in the Middle East), even created an act that barred American companies from buying oil rich property in the Middle East, yet lost it all and now pay out the ass for gasoline...maybe god will still love you after such a failure.
Go back to your colonies and keep quiet....oh wait, you lost those too.

Rich boys? I pay 111 a month for my 06 2.0T and I'm 22 and the car is in my name. I don't think you need to be particularly rich to afford that.

There's the spoiled kids and there's the people that worked very hard for their cars. And this thread is too much of the former

Honestly, I think the condescending "greater than thou" attitude of some of the older members was just as bad as some of the spoiled, unappreciative younger members.
If you got your car given to you, great, no need to flaunt it and put down others who didn't. If you worked hard for your car, great, no need to flaunt that and put down other members who didn't either.

a4a4a4 is right....one of my first cars when i turned 16 was a brand new wrx and in school i caught a lot of flack and was called a "rich bitch" and this and that blah blah blah
fact is, yea, i got a car that i prolly did not deserve, did i ask for it? no, it was a surprise by my parents who knew i loved cars and thought that a 2.0 turbo was a pretty nice motor to give a kid. and you know what? for all the shit i caught in high school for it was so hypocritical it made me laugh
all i ever responded with was "right, im a rich bitch bc my dad gave me a free brand new car and i accepted the gift....please tlak shit to me when you turn down the deal i got"
truth is, i understand that it must be hard to have worked extremely hard to get where you are and see some 16 year old driving the same car....but ask yourself, if you were given that car as a gift would you decline it? answer is absolutely not
i respect my dad for working as hard as he did to give me the things that i know 95% of kids my age never get, and i do my best to try and respect my parents and be grateful for everything they've given me.....i could easily be set up with a nice cushy job via my father, but instead im focusing on passing the CPA exam so i can rise through the ranks like my father did...and i hope that one day i can spoil my kids the way my parents spoiled me

I guess justin bieber has earned some money himself nowadays, but is he even allowed to drive yet? :P
In other cases i'm quite surprised, it seems like quite a few 16 yo have new/expensive cars in USA.
Normally where i live we start out with cheap as hell volvos <1000$ and then when you have earned the money you buy a car.
But i totally agree with a4a4a4 who would turn down that offer when you're 16/18?

I agree with you and think of it this way. You love cars and one day when your very successful you have a son. Your most likely going to give him a nice car when he's 16-18 just like you got. Why? Because you love him and cars is a passion which you would want to share. Why people have to put someone down because of that is beyond me.
