Meet at 10:00 Castro Valley Mc Donalds. The one that you can see off of the 580. I think its Strobridge.

Bring your water, camelbacks, and FRS radios (just in case).

The ride will be in the Oakland hills, off Skyline, and Jaquin Miller.

Single Track, trails, and some great scenery!

UPDATE: Hey Benny. Some of south bay peeps that want to ride are not sure if your trail is do-able for them at their current skill/fitness level. You wanna come down San Jose way to do Saratoga Gap instead? Then you can tell us how your trail compares for future reference.

haha, umm next time. i am SOOO there.

but i have a few peeps from norcalvw already...

if anyone is freaking about the trail, you can seriously just stay on the easy part of it. you don't have to go down the harder stuff. its a BIG park.

Great ride today Dave. Thanks again for setting it up.

Good job Ed, you're more of an experienced bike rider than me!

Ted: how in the heck did you have so much energy today???

Anyone up for a ride in Tahoe on Labor Day weekend? I'll be up there from Friday to Monday. We could get a little gambling in too [;)]

Pick a price point and go check out a couple of your local bike shops. Most major brands will have comparable bikes at similar prices. More exotic frame materials or hand-built frames will bump prices up, but probably not necessary for you right now. Pay attention to components. You might be able to get a $400 bike with a front shock or a $400 bike without a front shock but better components. There are always trade-offs.

San Jose area bike shops:

Summit Cycles in Los Gatos
Supergo in Mt. View
Pacific Bicyles in San Jose
REI in San Jose
Off Ramp in Santa Clara

Good luck!

My race is on Saturday so Sunday would be a better day for me to go riding. Actually, the race is only a couple hours but I'll probably be there all day to support my team.

As far as places...I remember Dave mentioning North Star. I don't know how advanced the trails are there (not so advanced in the wintertime, hehe) so I don't know if the whole group would be up to that. On the other hand, we could make good use of those chair lifts for a day of ALL DOWNHILL [:D]

Good luck! If you go with something in the $600 range, I'm sure you can find a decent bike. Not fancy, but trail-worthy.

Don't be surprised if you see my car (or me) at REI tomorrow night. They need me to go in to help cashier.
