Are there more stringent laws for pedestrian impact safety in Canada?
Cause it may be some soft foam or plastic to sooth the scooped pedestrian.

...i believe its for bumper regulations....our bumper regulations are very strict...and must be able to haev a collision at a center speed without damaging the bumper hence those "tumours"...the TT also has it....people do remove then after they get the car...

How are they attached? It seems like there would be a lot of bodywork to do after removing those things. Boo Canadian bumper laws, hooray beer!

um...when i looked into the TT ones..they were drilled on AFTER the bumper was installed so if you were to remove it ther ewould be simply 2 holes you must fill.....i never got into details with it though..

Up here we have 5mph bumpers down there yours are 3mph, so there can be no damage or atleast minimal up to said speed limit. Can really make importing of some vehicles from the US difficult or impossible. It's the reason us canucks can't get the R32's and numerous other rides.[down]
or gto. i feel for ya. :(

I didn't take the pics, I found them on a dealer's facebook group, I'm gonna inquire about the bumper addon fitment, hopefully it's not too much work to get it off.

This is the same reason why US B5 S4s can't be imported to Canada and why the Canadian B5 S4 came equipped with halogen headlights instead of Xenon...

If I lived in Canada and could afford a R8 I would buy it then take them off. Since I don't live in Canada and can't afford the car I will just continue to enjoy the US version and dreaming about owning an R8.

The thought of some guy drilling into a brand new R8 because of some stupid bumper law is just sickening.
That's some dealership though, never seen one with it's own parking garage.

The R8 "bumperettes" are not drilled on by the dealer.... They are attached at the factory, way before the car hits the boat!!

From Audi Canada-
"The extra pieces on the front bumper are put in place because Canadians are such terrible drivers. They have proven to be very effective."

That is not part of the R8 the R8 in the OP pictures must been added on. I have seen a few R8's in toronto and have not seen that bumper.
The Audi Canada website doesn't indicate that is standard also.

Those bumpers were added on to the early R8's and TT's. However since then bumper regulations have been changed to coincide with the Amercian regulations, hence no more bumper additions. If the car has them, it was first year production.
