I'm not sure about others, but I receive no supplemental income from my parents outside of tuition/books. I'm graduating with my BS in May and will be attending grad school in the fall. I've saved up a decent sum of money over the past year and I have a pretty decent job. My car is my gift to myself for graduation, and will be my last major purchase for a few years, as I prepare to purchase a house.

Well before the Audi I had a 2001 civic which I paid off myself...then my dad's 87 maxima took a shit and he wanted my civic b/c he works construction...so he took my car and we got the audi for quattro since I'm going to school in the north country. So I have the Audi and he has the civic...[drive]

I agree, hard work with a well paying job, good credit, and a financially sound mind to know not to buy every new pair of Jordans that hits the market. This is my first Audi, but it is my 3rd car in 3 years over $35 grand. Not to toot my own horn, but I think cars over $35K are not entry level cars.
But at 16-19 I didn't have the credit or money to buy a $500+ a month car, if you younger members are doing it by yourself you are way ahead of me. I congatulate you on your young success. On the other hand, if your parents are paying for your car then at least say they. You don't need to lie to sound cool. By saying you are paying the car yourself, you are only lting to yourself and your other AZ mebers. You would get more respect if you told the truth. Of course that's just my 2 cents.....take it or leave it.

ill admit the only reason i can afford this car at my age of 20 is because i still live at home and don't pay rent. once i move out in a year or two, i'm probably gonna have to downgrade to a car thats a lot cheaper. i figured i might as well enjoy the nice expensive cars now. i only work part-time (make pretty good money though) and i go to school full time

Long story short, I took automotive classes for 4 years, also did the apprentice program for 2 years, now a Certified GM Tech 6 months after graduating back in June of 07, working at a GM dealership that also has Toyota, Audi, Porsche, and VW, (Michael Automotive). The owner had an Audi special going on for employee's for $250 a month on the A4's, time was comming on my Camaro to stop driving as a daily driver, and i decided to reward myself with a new car. I would never buy an american car after the lease i signed for this vehicle.

What is interesting is seeing the demographics of a German luxury car forum. Many people find it interesting that people in their mid to late twenties are pretty much the old guys around here. That is interesting, because I don't think many people had an idea that so many young kids get cars like this handed to them. I know that I was shocked to find that out.

What is interesting is seeing the demographics of a German luxury car forum. Many people find it interesting that people in their mid to late twenties are pretty much the old guys around here. That is interesting, because I don't think many people had an idea that so many young kids get cars like this handed to them. I know that I was shocked to find that out.
x2 But then again it really depends on where you live/grew up. From what I pick up alot of the younger guys/girls that were given their cars are from pretty affluent areas of the country. So most likely it's not much of an issue for their parents to drop 30-40k on a car for a birthday present.
Also you have to look at this: this forum represents a small portion of the B7 drivers out there. Then factor in the web "savvy-ness" of high school aged people vs the older generations and you get a disproportionate amount of younger forum members.
And then there are the hood rich people....

A lot of the younger guys may not have had the cars handed to them, though.
It is much easier to make a car payment when it's the only real bill you have. So yes, parents are still helping in that they provide a place to live, food, clothing, etc, but that doesn't mean that some of the younger guys didn't/don't work for their cars.

06-23-2009, 01:13 PM
That may be the case, but even so I don't know anyone in high school who has a good enough part time job to buy a $35k car, much less have the credit history or salary to get a loan for one.
RocketSurgeon
06-23-2009, 01:16 PM
I know a couple kids who got a loan through daddy and just pay him cash every month and let him handle getting it to the bank.
I'm lucky enough to have a father who would have been more than willing to let me do that, but I chose to just save and pay cash for my S4. Then again I'm driving a 10k car, not a 35k one.

I don't recall telling anyone anything, kid. Could you please point out to me where I told someone they are wrong, ignorant, or not worthy? Maybe you should get back to your high school English class and brush up on your comprehension skills. Mom and Dad won't be able to take care of everything for you in life.
Anyway, I'd rather be a natural born asshole than mommy's little princess.

Maybe if you weren't such a typical clueless teenager you would be able to discern the humor and sarcasm in about 95% of what I say. You would also see that I wasn't attacking or referring to anyone in this thread, I made an observation regarding the demographic information in this thread and was discussing it with someone else. You are the punk that decided to call me an asshole.
You feel bad for the people in my life? Really? I'll be sure to let all of them know that some spoiled kid who has the life experience of a fresh cat turd feels that way.

Ok, ok. We obviously all understand the impasse that lies within these kind of threads. However, the whole "typical" teenager image that you have fabricated in your mind needs to go. It is not right. Also, the fact that some younger B7 drivers like myself had their car's "handed" to them is only proof that they have hard working parents, who want them to be safe and happy. Hopefully these kind of parents will make an impact on their kids and teach them to be thankful that they are fortunate and hopefully I will be able to do the same for my son/daughter too. I see nothing wrong with the fact that we are young and driving the same car as you, if anything, it creates a more diverse, interesting community for use to share our Audi/car enthusiast experiences with.

I think you are mistaken in believing that I care what people think. There are about 12 people in the B7 forum who are cool and know anything at all about cars. If I cared about impressing high school kids I would be busy trying to put S6 LED's on my car.

Very well said, and way to stand up for us younger guys! Personally, I bought my car, no help from mom or dad. And I deserve it, I've worked my ass off since I was 14. As said earlier, its easier for us to buy these cars because that is honestly the only payment I have, besides my cell phone and various other things, and usually people my age don't have any sort of standing debt. And as Italia said, having us younger guys around is; expanding the community, bringing new ideas to the table, and celebrating the car that we are all very enthusiastic about. Now this doesn't apply to all teenagers, and CBR is right in certain aspects. There are some kids who got handed these cars outright, and then act like douches. This gives the rest of us a bad name.
These sort of threads always go south at some point, I believe we may have arrived.

I'm 25. I pay 700 a month for my A4 (payment is actually 512 or something) but I want to get rid of the loan. I work on average about 65 hours a week managing a design team at an automation company.
I'd be lying if I said I had respect for kids who were just given a $35K car. That's great that your parents love you and want you to be safe...My mom sold me her civic for 400 bucks when I was 16, I bought every car I've ever owned. My parents are fantastic people and looking back on it the best thing they ever did was make me pay for my first car. It's a lot more gratifying when you finally "make it". Weather it be getting rid of your MK3 Golf and buying an Audi, or moving from your apartment to your first house. Hard work builds people with an appreciation for what they have, and what it took to get it.
I'm certainly not going to hate on anyone who's been given their $35K car, since we're all enthusiasts, and frankly I don't care to fight on the internet, but in my humble opinion I'd rather work for it any day than skate through life on the charity of others.

If you don't mind me asking, what does a 17 year old do to afford gas, insurance, and the payment on an Audi while still in high school? I could barely afford the maintenance, insurance, and gas on an 11 year old Mazda when I was in high school.

Clearly this poll is skewed to the extreme by the demographic that actually uses internet forums.
The average age of a B7 owner must be at least 30+. On this forum it's like 22.
I'm personally 26 and bought my high mileage B6 avant when I was 24 for $11k. You all make me feel old and poor, and the fact is I'm neither old nor poor. It's all relative I suppose.
I think the next poll should be: who lives with their parents, rents an apt, or owns a house?
I rent and have for the past 10 years, though I've also lived in five cities on two continents during that time, and will be moving again in a month.

Holy cow-I think I'll be 39 in November!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's right-the memory is the next thing to go after a bad back since the ripe age of 24.
