Contemplating buying a 95.5 S6 and had a few questions...

$6500 for:
1995.5 S6 Avant
green/tan
manual
230k miles
exterior 8/10
interior 9/10

First off is it a good deal?
What kind of aftermarket is there? bigger turbos, wastegates, suspension?
Reliability? everything's factory, turbo, etc. will be used as a commuter car to school.
Any online places to buy parts for it besides ECS tuning?

I think that's all of my questions..thanks in advance.

Great car. I wish I could find one. 250k is where the people I know think great reliability ends, although with some maintenance and work they will last twice that.

They are getting pretty expensive. I'd say that is a pretty good deal, although it has high mileage. 95.5 is the one to get imo. The 95's are great too, but the .5's have a couple more options that my friends with 95's all want.

As far as mods go there are tons out there. The sky is the limit pretty much.

i'd say its worth it if its really in that good of shape. The miles are a little high, but it easily has 100k left in it so...........

That's a lot of miles for a 95.5. $6500 is maybe too much, but that's my opinion. emerald green is a common color too. Make sure they ahve ALLLLLLL previous mantenance records.

I have a 93 S4 (same c4 body and same AAN engine) and let me tell they are fun to work on but your really need to know what you're doing because it seems to me that info on these cars require a little more research AND know-how compared to (say) the B6 world where info on these cars are much more abundant and owners seem to be happy with paying others to do the work for them.

Also, parts ARE NOT cheap. To offset that most S car owners enjoy doing ALL the work themselves...so be ready for a lot of digging through archives on Audiworld.

On top of your regular maintenance (filters, plugs, injector cleaning, gaskets, seals, etc) other important things to look at with cars that high in mileage would be

- fuel pump
- steering rack, torn mount(s)
- i would also check the prop shaft joints, AND inner and outer front/rear CV joints
- timing belt + water pump (when was the last belt change)
- transmission problems from 1st to 2nd if running off original tranny
- the power steering pump tends to leak to at high mileage, mine does.

Good luck,
Brian

Ha, nevermind i see you run a Stage 2+ B5S4, i think you know what you're doing. You're not find alot of stuff on ECS, your tuning options are more with 034 motorsport, 2Bennett, MTM, Intended acceleration, Minhea, Dahlback...

haha thanks for everything guys! yeah DEEPHOUSE,i have the b5 s4 and know how much a pain in the ass that is and by looking and researching the c4 s6,it should be ALOT easier to work on than the 2.7 motor i have! haha.

yeah i was more concerned with 1. the reliability because i'll be driving from MA to RI everyday for school, 2. what can i do for turbo upgrades once the stock k24 (?) turbo goes, and 3. how to maintain the thing!

but i think i'm gonna do it,book value (although who goes by that) says $10k,and the fact that i love avants let alone the c4 s6! once i get it i'll post pics.

i wish it didnt come down to researching on AudiWorld,i hate their setup sooo much! hahah...

You'll get used to it.

The question is how deep are your pockets? sky is the limit w/ this motor.

See if he'll take $5 for the avant. that will give you a good $1500 cushion for your first few maintenance items/upgrades

very true,i'll see how low he'll go. it already has intraz springs,a4 wheels, and a custom 3in turbo back,so its not totally stock, but very well taken care of. we'll see...

The price seems too high for a 1995 Audi with 203 K.

I just retired my 89 200QT and got a 97 A6 Avant Q (black with grey) with 170K for less than $3000. The timing belt was done about 10K ago, it had almost new Michelin Exalto Pilots, and almost everything worked. The check engine light was on (the person said it needed O2 sensors) but my VAGCom said it was low flow in the Secondary air injection system. I found that it was just a plugged line. I also replaced a few bulbs in the instrument cluster.

A few years ago, I got my daughter an A6 FWD with 120K (new timing belt, good tires etc) for a little over $3000.

A quick check of Craig’s list shows a number of A6’s below $4000.

Unless the car is gold plated – a 95 with 203K for $6500 is about 2X too much

At that price its a tough call. If its well cared for w/ service rec's it'll be a good DD.

If you can get it for 5-5500....then get it.

FWIW, s6 avants are pretty scarce to find under 10K.

With 034's gt2871 or 30R kit w/ exh mani + IIC standalone you can easily see 330 whp. A friend of mine is getting at least that on his s6 w/ room for more tuning.

Great car ,even or $6k....I'm putting a VEMS standalone up for sale as we speak.....Go GT3071R, get some good hp numbers down !!!!

yeah NH USA,i agree A6's are about that price, but we're talking S6 avant which is rare as hell and if you do see them, there upwards of $8-10k.

yeah i was looking at 034 and they have some awesome stuff for the s6. how much can that motor hold? im sure i'd have to rebuild it if im gonna be going gt28 or gt30 turbos...

I rebuilt my 93 S4 with 150k on it. Stock rods will hold 400hp,stock pistons will hold 650hp. I have a big laundry list(see bings S4 back together thread).with 230k you should think about gettin the internals swapped out with the plan of go-fast mods including new main and rod bearings. Get ARP head and main studs and be careful putting in main stud between#1 and #2 cyl as you dont want to crush check valve by inserting stud too far and starving lifters of oil(BTDT!!!) TAP,TAP,TAPAROO!!!
034 has great stuff yes,but set a goal of hp to gain, and dont get what you dont need....

yeah i'm planning on a 300-330whp daily driver,so yeah i'll have to do internals if i'm planning to get that.

not at all. you could run that out the gate no problems. these motors were overbuilt from the factory. im gunning for the same numbers and all Im doing for added insurance is a low comp head gasket and arp head bolts. no need for internal work until you start knocking in 500 hp's door

i sodl my coupe cause it was killing me as a daily driver. i had to replace steering rack right away.

that engine is great. high milage. I would have a shop pull the engine and rebuild it if its not your daily driver. I would also offer him 5k :)

AAN stock rods SHOULD be replaced if crossing the line of 400 crank horses!! A word to the wise!!! I threw that same thought around when i was panning the build from the get-go.Talked to many very experienced urS4 and those the like, unanimous decision by all>>>goin over 400? upgrade the internals!!! here is a picture of my friend 95.5 S6 Avant with 400 crank hp on FULL RS2 spec on stock rods and a compression dropping head gasket that failed.....http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/thumbs/block_destruction2_004.jpg (http://www.audizine.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=30794)

Yep that would be bad!

I am in total agreement...Make sure the stuff is strong enough before you through increase the power toooo much.

Personally I am on stock rods...but then I only pull a dyno @ 227 WHP and 259 WTQ
