if you had the opportunity to go from an 08 A4 2.0t Sline 6speed to a Q7 3.6 would you do it?
Need some other views on if this a good decision. Been in lowered sedans and sports cars my whole life, I think the space would be a welcome change for a few years on the lease. Looking to hear from anyone who has made the switch from a sedan to the Q and how they like it? I am a family man with a 3yr old only who is still in a car seat.
Thanks all
Cheers

Making that switch would be kinda hard, the V6 in the Q7 would be noticeably slower than your A4 now, the V8 would be less painful.
I would switch for the V8.

Go for it, man. Your family will like it.
Good luck.

Even though the Q7 is quite large it drives more like a sedan than many other SUVs out there. If you take a lot of trips , you will love the space. It will be great for the Canadien winters. Have you ever been to Ogdensburg, NY?

On another note, my friend (shes 20) Loves her Q7, got it as a gift, she feels really safe in it, not that she really needs all that space though.
If you can live with the lesser power I would say go for it.

i hate suvs...
but, if i was going to get an suv, the q7 is a no-brainer. and if i was a family man, well, i could see getting an suv.
other than that it's small sports cars/sedans for me.

Go for the 4.2 V8 if possible. The V6 doesn't have much better MPG than the V8.

well since u have a zx6r and a family, i would switch to the suv and not sell the bike.. the zx6r can provide the thrills.. :)

the 2nd row. Alot more leg room. I'm 6'4" and can fit behind the driver seat with it pushed back to where I normally drive. In the A4. No one, could sit behind me! In addition to the third row allowing an increase in people carrying. You are never going to get the same road feel from the SUV as you do in the car. However, having owned both; the Q7 handles very well. I own the 3.6 version and after breakin the 3.6 really comes into its own. I have a 4 year old and the Avant just wasn't large enough to handle all the stuff that comes with kids.[confused][:D]

Are you kidding me - the Q7 3.6 is NOT slow - i thougth it was until I got into it and drove it
it drives like a big ass wagon not an suv -- GO FOR IT!
also ... the v8 has better MPG than the v6 ....
OR
you can save up and buy teh v10 diesel version :D

really?
The V6 has to work harder than the V8 to move the Q7 around. I don't know if it's better, but they're pretty close. Honestly though, the fuel economy sucks either way

I drive an '06 A4 Avant 2.0t. When my car was in for its last service, I got to drive a Q7 3.6 as a loaner. My first impression when I drove off the lot was "wow, this thing is wobbly". There was noticeably more head-toss when going over rough pavement, I am sure that's due to the tall nature of the Q7.
I also recall thinking that the Q7 doesn't feel "on rails" like the A4 does and that it is slower (duh).
Once I got used to the different feel of the Q7, I really liked being up higher and I LOVED the additional room (I am 6'2)
I fully realize that one shouldn't expect an SUV to handle like a car, but since the OP is asking for opinions, I thought I'd share my impressions of driving a Q7 when my daily driver as an A4.

They most likely gave you one with the base suspension, much like the base suspension on my B7, the sport suspension is worlds better.
You just picked up an '08 A4 and are thinking of switching already? You are worse than me! [:D]

i'd wait it out for the Q7 tdi. there's your mpg's plus towing, ya know for the zx to the track! don't sell it! just make it a track toy. but the 3.6 has pretty good power and it does handle well for a big car.

zx as a track toy sounds great but really, the thing scares the hell out of me. I came from enjoying sports cars as a toy and tried switching to bikes for a change. I feel way more comfortable handling a sports car (had a tuned supra turbo before as well). Bike is for sale and i'm waiting to see how the Q5 looks. Anybody waiting to peek at the Q5 as well. In the meantime, i really do enjoy my sline a4 2.0t until the Q5 hits the showroom. q7 i've come to realize is just too big and drinks way too much gas.

As large three-row SUVs go, the Q7 drives the best.
But I still wouldn't want one. I prefer a compact car. I have three kids, and the car I drive most often is a Mazda Protege5.
As you seem to have figured out (but many others haven't), a single kid doesn't force you into an SUV.

I love the Q. It drives nice and it's definitely well built. The 3rd row is only comfortable for children, but it's a good car nonetheless. I upgraded from an infiniti FX, and prefer the Q much more.

If you are going to make the switch, make sure you get the Q7 with an s-line package. It makes a huge difference when it comes to handling. I love my A4 and have a great time driving it but when I drive the Q7, I'm completely relaxed and not zig-zagging in and out of traffic as much. I appreciate them both and I'm glad I get to drive them both all the time. Coming from a 2.0t to a Q7 3.6 you'll notice a drop in performance but when you are driving an SUV you also don't need to be the first one off the line and taking turns as quickly as you can. It is just an all around different experience.

that's great feedback, thanks. 4.2 Q7 is out of my price range so I would consider the 3.6 sline. Good points...mucho appreciated.
i think I may just be sold, my girlfriend wants me to get the q7 also actually

Consider the 2008(bigger engine) CX-9, I have a rental AWD and the handling/V6 pulls mean and the space really suprised me. The interior is not on audi levels but it's pretty good. I avg 20mpg it in driving very aggressively and about 80mph on the highway.
I'm just saying, test drive it. You might like it for a lot less $$$ all around(maint, gas, repairs, buying cost).
