Does anyone know of any US dealers that would sell an S5 to a Canadian resident ?

Thank you

no-one officially, but speaking to them in person you might be able to work something out.

I think it would be difficult unless you pay cash for it. I think most dealers will be leery about financing a car that will be leaving the country before it's paid off...

Almost every dealer I have spoken to has no problem selling to Canadians, you just can't finance through them. You will have to get a bank loan and buy the car outright from the dealer. At least this has been my experience.

What kind of discount (if any) one can get when paying cash for a car which is leaving the US ?

I'm thinking about importing one myself.

I saw an S5 in Ottawa with a 10 day Ontario trip permit from IRA Audi. First one I have seen, they are in MA.

Audi will not let dealers sell cars outside of the us. If anyone is caught doing it they will be fined.
That means you jonmiles!!!

Dealers want to sell cars to make money. There are ALWAYS methods to make this happen.

That's not the case. We will not sell to anyone outside the US period. There are way too many problems involved with Audi. Pre-owned cars is a different matter, so if you can find a used S5 you'll have no problem. They are very strict though about their cars leaving the US.

Well, here's a hypothetical (strictly hypothetical) and seemingly legitimate option (those knowing otherwise feel free to chime in):

Have a trusted friend/family member who resides in the US buy an S5 from a US Audi dealer. Perhaps you know someone who would be willing to finance that purchase?
Have them drive it for 1000 miles or so (with the utmost care, of course :))
Or maybe, if you have a few days off, drive with them for that initial 1000 miles.
We all need a vacation anyways. What better way to spend it than in a new S5?
It's should now be "used", according to US or state regulations regarding new/used status vehicles, but double check on the required mileage to be considered "used".

Have it then imported to Canada, re-sold to you for "fair" market value, whatever that is between yourself and your friend/family member.
You'll have to pay taxes (GST, PST or whatever + RIV fees) for licensing, but you would have had to pay that anyways if you bought the car in Canada.

And the MSRP for an S5 at a Canadian Audi dealer would undoubtedly have been thousands more than the US MSRP, so you would probably still be saving a bunch after taxes.

As long as the Canadian RIV website permits you to plate the S5 in Canada, you should be good to go right?

If this is not legit, then I apologize, and fully retract this brainstorm.

No need to have someone drive it, Audi penalizes the dealership if the car is sold directly to a Canadian for direct export. Being used has nothing to do with RIV/Government/Border agencies, Audi just wants to put an obstacle in your way to purchasing new. There is an easier way around the regulations, just have to find a dealer who is willing to help you with that. Call around and you'll get lucky.
Cheers
