Just got out of court for a speeding ticket (83 in a 40). B4 i went in, the officer told me the best he could do was lower it to 75 in a 40 w/ a guilty plea. Not much help, but i figured better than nothing. The judge later explained to me that since this was my 3rd ticket in 18 months, if i plead guilty my driving privelages would b suspended in NY. (My license wouldn't be suspended b/c i have a PA license.) So the judge advised me to get a lawyer and take it to trial. Anyone have any experience with a case like this? Would a lawyer be able to get me off? How long would my driving privelages be suspended for if found guilty?
I figured something like this would happen being that the last time i was in court the judge told me i have 19 points on my license and if she saw me again i would have a big problem. Luckily this wasn't the same judge, wasn't even the same town. So am i royally screwed or what?

You have 19pts? I don't feel bad for you at all. You obviously didn't learn the 1st time.....or the 2nd....or the third....or the 4th....or the 5th....or, you get the point. Slow your ass down. Why do you need to be doing 43 over? Yes, it sounds like you're screwed, but you deserve it for being an idiot.

Get ready to bend over, lets just say that.. You're look at some k04 money right there.. Any lawyer is gonna want around 2g's with that kinda record.. Better start lookin around for a lawyer or else your license is gonna be REVOKED, not suspended, and its for atleast 6 months..

min 6 mos revocation for 3 speeding tix in 18 mos (it happened to me on my 20th bday when i got 2 in one day an hour apart from each other), but if you show them you need to drive to school/work they can give you a restricted license for the time period. when the term is up just turn in the restricted and your all set. its really not that bad, just don't get pulled over in the times your not supposed to be driving and its all gravy orrrr just don't drive when your not suppose to of course!
anyway...funny story: my revocation was in the summer and i happened to get into a car accident, we called the cops to file a police report, one cop was an a$$ bc he wanted arrest me for driving with a revoked license because "its the summer, there's no school" and i was like..."ever hear of summer classes?" (which i didn't have and was really driving "illegally"). his partner was cracking up and just gave me a ticket for expired insurance so that they didn't loose face in front of the other guy

in NY its like 2 pts with no clocked speed, 4 pts for 10-20 mph over, 6 pts for 20+ over and some bad ish for doubling the limit i.e. 60 in a 30. anything above 11 pts is suspension and 3 speeding tix in 18 mos is revocation

Haha,
Reckless Driving
90+ in a 40
Improper lane change
improper stop
running two red lights.
Yeah.. I was running. Just with a 1.8t that wasn't quite successful. If it weren't for 1 light I would've been gone, I managed to put over a mile on the cop but got caught up with traffic and wasn't quite ready to go through extraneous measures to get away, pulled into a dark neighborhood tried to hide, but I got found.
(Please no comments on how retardedly stupid this was, I well realize. )
I have a friend whom knows a lawyer that has a connection with the prosecutor in the court I will stand trial in. No god damn way that I am loosing my license, especially now that I am gearing up for an S4.

Wierd, I just went through this 3 weeks ago....[rolleyes] I had 2 speeding tickets in the S, and the last one I got 30 over in one of the worst areas for a speed trap in America(I later found out) and was taken to jail for going 85 in a 55. I am 20, hired a lawyer and he got me out of the reckless driving ticket. they eventually dropped it to 23 over under the condition I take a definsive driving course within a month. If you hire a lawyer you should possibly be able to get out of it, but good luck.

How much does your typical lawyer fee run for a basic speeding ticket?
I got my 2nd ticket over the summer, and it was for 96 in a 55, with a tint violation.
Ticket was for approx. $650. Needless to say I requested a court date and plan to get a lawyer, but was curious as to what it would cost.

Well heres the rundown from this fucking ordeal:
-Bond at jail to get out: 2,000!!![headbang] but paid the bondsman 230 to get out...
-Towing fee:100
-lawyer fee:1000
-Ticket fine-400
DD course-75
Its been a bitch. Lawyer fee should be anywhere 500-1000 flat rate.

So I take it you pleaded "Not Guilty?" Didn't take the plea bargain? In what state(s) were the tickets given that you obtained a royal score of 19? In all truthfulness a lawyer is not going to get you off! With 19 points I would be surprised if it your license was revoked for less than a year. When is the court date set ? Relaying this info, I may be able to help you out.
The advice I will give you as I was in a very similar situation (30 over) let's just say it was triple digits I was clocked at, is that the advantage of a lawyer is that he knows the language and he knows the system. Not only will he probably know the DA and or Judge but his presence will help you out. You walking in there trying to represent yourself in front of the MAN will only result in having the proverbial "book thrown at you." The lawyer will be able to negotiate a better deal as well. Ultimately you want to reduce the chances of increased insurance rates. ( I don't even know that this would be a concern of yours at this point...)
Of course you don't have to call Johnnie Cochran or a $1000/hr lawyer but retain the counsel of someone who is well versed in traffic law specifically. Also I am assuming you have no knowledge of law. Shop around.

^^^ 100% true about the lawyer. I walked in, said maybe 3 words to the prosecutor and judge, then my lawyer handled the rest. They do know the DA and Judge, if there is any way to get out of your tickets thats probly the best way to go.
I was facing about 15pts, but luckily the police let me go. I was in court about a yr ago for a 76 in a 55 to keep my license, because those points would have pushed me over the limit. I told me i was professional pilot major, and that i needed to drive. He knock it down some and i only got 5pt on my license.

Lastly kids, if you decide not to go the psl, then before you buy your next "chip" purchase a V1, use a rabbit, and if you want to be very sure get a lidatek laserjammer... It may be expensive but as you can see it will pay for itself many times over.
By the way OP, how were you clocked? Radar, Radar (M), Laser, Lidar, Airplane, pace?

Yep I pleaded not guilty. The officer said he would only be able to get it down to 75 in a 40. All the tickets were in NY. The thing is, they haven't been able to suspend my license b/c i have a PA license. From my understanding, and what the officer told me, they can only suspend my driving privelages in NY. So i will still have a valid license everywhere except NY.
I don't feel bad for you at all.
I didnt ask for your sympathy. I'm sharing my story and requesting info from those who have been in similar situations or anyone who has any HELPFUL suggestions or comments.
how were you clocked?
Not really sure. The ironic part is, i had just bought a cheap radar detector 2 days prior to the ticket. The radar detector went off, but it goes off at that location every day b/c there is a standing radar that shows your speed at that spot. So I thought nothing of it. The cop was waiting on the side right around the bend....They haven't set the trial date as yet. They said they would send the info through the mail.
So everyone agrees that i should definitely find a lawyer?

I flew past a cop on the garden state parkway coming from the jersey shore. Unfortunately, I was on the express lanes (2 lanes, exits are spread apart far) so I couldn't run.

I've been pulled over so many times for going 15+ over, and i have 0 points on my license. I took a defensive driving class, which took off two points on my license this one time.
Another time I got a lawyer and the ticket was dismissed when we went to trial. I suggest you do the same.

I actually took a defensive driving course almost a year ago. I believe it took off 3 points. But if i'm not mistaken you can only take a defensive driving course once every 3 years. I could be wrong though.

a big x2!!!!!!
Invest in a good radar detector and laser jammer if your going to be speeding that extensively.
The best laser jammer out right now from everything I've heard is the Laser Intercepter tho.

Get a lawyer, after shopping around to a handful for rates and ballpark outcomes. Ask the candidates who they recommend, really. There isn't a better option.
Only time I've been nabbed is clocked at 100 in a school zone (30). I was actually doing 110 before I hit the brakes. Cop 'decided' not to charge me with dangerous driving (criminal charge) and let me go... to court. I plead guilty (on the advice of my lawyer who did so free) and paid the $550 fine with no points. In my case I was given minimums because I was a student and it was on my learners' license.
So definitely get a lawyer. They're your mechanic in this instance, and you don't have the diagnostic equipment. Good luck, btw.

Thanks guys. I know the lawyer fees are going to cost an arm and a leg, especially in the town i was caught in (Scarsdale, NY), but that's my only option at this point. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
