sorry for all the questions in advance

a friend of mine bought a 87 5000 cs turbo a while ago, drove it for a few months, and then just let it sit. I decided to get it from him and fix it up, and play with it. major problems are the wiring(its been butchered together, i plan on redoing a lot of it), and its got a horrible torque on pull(pretty sure that means it needs trans mounts).

I also plan on installing a manual boost controller, a boost gauge, a BOV, and the chipping the ecu so i can get some more boost out of it. I read somewhere that with an automatic trans you cant go over 1.8 bar, is this true? any help with doing this to the turbo on this car would be awesome.

And what would you guys recommend for moving the driver's seat back? its hard for me to actually fit comfortably in it.

I also want to redo the exhaust, i dont think i need the 3 cats and whatever else the car has on it, and i want to get a good sound from it(no, i do not want something that sounds like a fart can.)

theres a whole bunch more i want to do to it, but this is all i can think of right now, any help you can give would be awesome. I've been a mechanic and collision repair tech/painter for the past like 5 years, so i know what i'm doing, i jus thavent had much experience with audis.

thanks in advance

20vt? or is it a 10vt or a 4 cylinder engine? i would check out 034motorsport, they are going to help me with a 20v n/a build that i have been dreaming up

teh 87's had the 10v turbos which are strong engines in their own right and less problemmatic than the 20v's. The 10vt's are better suited for transfers into a smaller lighter chasis, like a early coupe or fox.
My recommendation would be not to toss a lot of $$$ or time in teh car. have fun running it into the ground and walk away.

plenty of other worthy audis out there with greater potential.

I like the car, its fun to drive, the biggest and most expensive thing i'm gonna do to it is knock the boost up to about 17 psi, maybe more depending on how brave i am, and fix the trans mounts so its a little less squirrelly to drive. other than that, i'm jsut gonna do some regular maintnence to it. but i'm not gonna be able to do anything to it without insurance.....

that wont be happening. the 10vts. the maf maxes out at 1.7 bar and timing becomes static after this. so as soon as you hit 1.6 bar the car will fuel cut. they sell chips that fool the ecu into thinking it has less boost. but this is stupid because of the fact that the timing becomes static regardless. so basically unless you feel like spending a decent amount of money correcting this by doing this properly, you wont be able to do much with boost. im about to convert to efi on my 89 200 avant 10vt, thats what you really need to start off with. but its not cheap.

cheap mods? exhaust, boost controller that doesnt spike over 1.6 bar, 3b intercooler. thats about it. once you go efi skies the limit.

can you recommend any exhaust brands that would give me a nice deep rumble?

i dont know of any. i custom made mine myself. theres only 1 's' bend in the catback, its easy. when i 'rally prepped' my car i took it off and now i run open cat on mine. its loud as hell but actually sounds good.
