Picked up my new ride on Saturday

Earlier I posted my concerns about the meteor demo, that I test drove.

These were gone when I saw the phantom/ black that my dealer got in last week.

It drives like a dream, much smoother then my previous car, an Infiniti m45. The engine note is beautiful. In the cabin you get just a hint of it, which is fine with me. You get the feel that you are just eating up the road. It is a blast to drive.

I'll post more later, have to catch up on some work, lunch turned into an hour and a half today, as I just had to keep driving it.

After a couple of weeks, I have few complaints. I probably wouldn't have any, if I wasn’t reading these boards. I am a fledgling car enthusiast, so my terminology may be a bit off.

The car is just a pleasure to drive. The low stance, and the way the hood slopes makes you feel very connected to the road. I have also been impressed with the visibility while driving. Peripheral sight lines are great, and checking blind spots only takes a quick glance, whereas in my old car it seemed like I had to turn around. The ride is also much smoother then my previous car, an Infiniti M45 sport. I know not a surprise, with the sport suspension.

I am 6 foot 260, so I am not a small guy. It took a little while to get used to the seats, and the way they grab you on the sides. I don’t even notice it anymore.

The MMI has all the bells and whistles, and is pretty intuitive. The ipod integration is flawless. Before I thought I couldn’t live without satellite radio, now I listen to my ipod 75% of the time.

I do have some issues with the center display. It is too busy, and not aesthetically pleasing. While utilizing the ipod function the screen is filled with block blaze orange text with a black background. Once an album is selected it would be nice to have the option for a default s5 screen or a summary page. (M45= Windows XP, S5 equals DOS/Commodore 64) It would be nice to have a summary page, and see the status of all the various functions. It does everything, but isn’t pretty doing it.

In a car of this caliber, voice command should be standard, and not a button that says inactive. It is a road hazard.

Using three gears, I can get up to 23 MPG in my daily activities. (90 % Highway). Enjoying the car, but not pushing it yet, I get about 18. Should get better, and already better then expected.

Happy with the phantom, washed it for the first time today. The black isn’t as hard to maintain, as I feared.

For those of you looking for the wow factor, no need to worry. In two weeks at least five strangers, have approached me to talk about the car. Not to mention the people on the road gawking. That isn’t why I went with the S5. Yet…. I do get a perverse pleasure every time I pull up next to a 3 series. For those of you with Red and Sprint Blue, you may need crowd control

Can't go wrong with Black.. When it's clean it's one of the best colours for an Audi!
