What years do the turbos fail....why do they fail, and is there any solution to preventing it?

F hose delete...what's that all about?

I dont know much of anything but I do know the k03 turbos are the bad ones and tend to fail easily in the S4s. Then they should be replaced by the k04s that have no known issues of failing, so they are the good ones.

actually in the 2000 it was an oil line that caused the turbos to fail, and not any problems with the turbos themselves(so the story is passed on from one gen to the next), the KO3's are used in most of the audis and VW's except the 225 TT's, and are pretty good turbos. I believe to better his chances of not having a turbo issue, he should get a 2001+, and probably keep it stock(even this is not 100%) or as Delta suggested get K04's, but as most of us know you have to pay to play.

Hey I'm kinda in the same boat.. looking at a 2000 S4 right now and selling my A4. Any chance you know what oil line that is so I could replace it or atleast keep an eye on it.
