Funny thing was I just finished watching "Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle" a buddy roadtrip movie where everything goes really wrong, and this happens to me. I leave SJ about 11:30pm to get back to SF, driving slower cause my alignment wasn't completely successful. Got back in the City about 12:20am and realized I locked myself out of my house. I'm ringing the doorbell calling the house phone and my roomie is out cold (she wears headphones to sleep!?!).

Luckily my cousin has a spare set in Marin(she chills at my house between classes cause I'm so near SFSU). Called her and got the okay to come over and get the keys. Its close to 1am now, I'm tired annoyed an exhausted so I'm only going about 70 round the curvy area. Up ahead my lights pick up a smallish dead cat about 50 feet in front of me. Small enough (I think) I can drive right over it and miss it right? Wrong! Damn thing goes "thunka-thunk" under my car. As I'm taking my exit I hear "Sssshhh". Damn, the plastic bottom engine shield thing is scraping. I pull over and search my car for any kind of tool I that can take this thing off. And of course I don't have any with me.

Luckily I know theirs a Circle-K I knnow is still open, so I walk to that. The guy has no tools, but he does have a box cutter which he's good enough to loan me. I cut the d*mn thing off-go to my cousins house-get the key-get in bed by 3am-wake up late for work-out the door in 10 minutes this morning.

What did I learn?

5. Lowered cars and roadkill don't mix well.
4. Always carry tools just in case your not close to a Circle-K
3. Get my headlight upgrade done ASAP.
2. Drive slower at night and be more alert.
1. Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle is a funny A$$ movie. Go see it.

Oh damn I can't believe I missed this earlier. Same thing happened to me in the GTI! Well sorta, my roadkill experience looked to be slightly larger, like a coyote or something.

It was late, I was tired, and heading down to the Fresno area around midnight for Dubwars the following day.

So I just saw the carcass a little to late, and had no other option but to try and go over it. I must have hit the skull or something dead smack on the rear axle. It was loud and quite unnerving! I was almost to my destination and like I said it was late with very little well lit spots to pull over.

Get to the hotel and you can just smell the burning flesh on my hot exhaust piping. The next morning I survey the damage. Lots of blood and bits of hair all over the back and underside of the car. Was not a fun morning.

A few weeks later I hear that same "wssshhhhh" from under the car. The roadkill had done a good job dislodging the lower engine cover, and it somehow held up for weeks until finally falling down for some odd reason.

Anyway, morale of the story, pay more attention when driving!
