What is the general concensus on using your engine to slow down in conjunction with your brakes?
I know that you should ALWAYS do it when descending a steep grade to keep your brakes from overheating...but what about day-to-day stuff like coming up to a stop light at reasonable speeds?
Is it worth doing or are you sacrificing clutch wear (in the long run) over extended pad/rotor life?

I always gear down.... that was how I was taught to drive. As long as your not popping the clutch while in 2nd gear doing 100km I can't see it being overly abusive. Just my opinion though....
Rev match when downshifting, it'll negate any significant clutchwear. I downshift into all my stops.
Also, I think it *should* be better on gas to use the engine for slowing down instead of the brakes.

100% agree. Also, it does save gas because if you go in neutrel the engine will idle and burn gas. However if your coasting in gear the wheels keep the engine turning.
