View Full Version : Got My Sti!

I finally picked her up yesterday, and it's everything I hoped for and more. I can honestly say it feels faster than my dad's E46 m3, and the brakes are definitely better than the ones on my boss's porsche 911 that I drive every day. the shifter (got the short throw as an option) is probably the smoothest, shortest, and most precise I have used. plus it has a ton of cool little gadgets and, in my opinion, they really did a great job upgrading the interior for 2005. overall, no complaints whatsoever and I can't wipe the smile off my face when I drive it. Here's a few quick pics. It's a little dirty, I'll take some better ones this weekend.

I probably missed it, but is this a second car or did you sell the Audi?

boost junkie
07-25-2004, 01:26 PM
technically, the audi is not sold yet but it's spoken for. I stopped on my way home from the subaru dealership yesterday (had to drive to PA for it) and picked up the audi after getting coilovers removed. It's sad to see it slowly going back to stock and it's been a great car but rather than investing more money into it, I decided it was time to move on.

it may be a "rice bucket" to you, but I think it's pretty damn nice. not to mention in stock form it'll burn your little 1.8 even after you invest $1000s in mods. this is probably the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel, so I don't need a bunch of overpriced german sheetmetal wrapped around it to make me feel cool. don't get me wrong, I still love european cars, but at my age there's no way I can come close to affording one with the same level of performance as the sti.

Tons of people are on this Subie forum and lots of technical data as well. Nice pick of colour btw! I only have a WRX...I wish I could've had a STi....lucky bastard!

Then go get this....COBB Tuning Accessport (http://cobbtuning.com/sti/accessport.html)

You can download ECU maps from COBB and flash it yourself thru your port.

You could just add an STI badge AWDturbo....hahaha kidding. Some guy here in town did that on his 04' WRX and I called him on it. He was really embarrased because he was at the races in line. Everyone was gathered around his open hood, and I was standing at the back of his wagon!, looking at it saying...."WRX badge on this side, and an STI badge on that side" "Just doesn't add up buddy" Oh, it was good for a chuckle....

I don't need to be faster anymore... this was "Blindingly" FAAAAST and handled extremely well, and would truly melt RICE and only cost me once I was done $10K.

yeah, I haven't gone above 4000 rpm and don't plan to until 1000 miles. And I didn't get silver, it's metallic grey. in person it looks significantly darker, you can see the contrast with my mom's silver x5 right behind it.

I don't know about the taillights but it's getting 20% tint all around this friday.

Thanks, I have checked out nasioc before and they have some good info. personally, I like www.imprezawrxsti.com. ALso I checked out the accessport but decided I'm gonna go with the UTEC since turboxs is only 15 minutes away from me.

good for you man. I'm not saying everyone should run out and buy an sti because it certainly isn't for everyone. but I happen to like it a lot. I looked at B5 S4s and I decided against it because prices were too high on low mileage cars in my area and I wasn't really happy with the handling of the B5 chassis. B6 on the other hand, if I could afford one, I would have been all over it.

GTI is pretty quick. But the PU was a work in progress. Being single, that's all I did was build things, race and wrench and wrench. Now at 45 I'm starting to slow down. Still have the '83 RED GTI (I'm the original owner). Wife kept bitching about having too many cars, so I sold the PU. And made an agreement with the wife, I'd buy her the house of her dreams if we could keep our current rides and the new house would have a huge garage with 12' ceilings so I could have a lift and stop working on the ground underneath. And so it is.
Sorry for blasting the STI guy... I'm just bored and crazy too.
Have a nice day.[:)]

it might "feel" faster then ur dads E46 M3 but its not...the numbers dont even match up..do some research..but not bad for a jap crap [:D]

07-31-2004, 01:52 AM
well subaru advertises its 0-60 as 4.6 and 1/4 in 13.1. those numbers are faster than the M3. it has 33 less horsepower but weighs less.

yeah but I don't think I could live without power windows, door locks, a/c, etc. how much less is it than the regular evo if you add in the urban jungle package?

FITZ TITS
08-01-2004, 05:50 PM
the regular evo is 33k the RS is 26k. i asked the dealer about the urban jungle package and he was clueless about it.

urban jungle adds a/c and power windows back in. I can't remember if it includes anything else. I thought I heard people were getting regular evos for $28-29k.

I'm having the tint shop in rockville do mine later today. it's $169 and comes with a lifetime guarantee against bubbling and peeling. so I figure they probably do a good job if they are willing to replace it at any time if something goes wrong.

boost junkie

and ryan, if I were you I would go with a UTEC and turbo back exhaust as your first mods. that's a ton of power already for a little under $2k.

FITZ TITS
08-02-2004, 09:39 AM
damn this car is going to be sick. the UTEC sounds really hi-tech and complicated but since they are located near us, my best bet would be to go to them. plus, they do custom dyno tuning for 200/hr.

so when are you getting the car? you should get it in blue, I love that color on the evo and you don't see it much.

the only colors that the RS come in are red and white. my car is spoken for but we haven't made the final leap. shouldn't be too much longer before it's out of my hands. right when the check clears im off to the 355 mitsubishi dealership.

BramellS4

Utec sucks. Its not really a good idea to use stand alones for daily driven cars. After all, if you arent tuning your car everyday, how do you expect it to make changes for differences in temp, fuel, and elevation? The factory ECU has all of these features already in place...SO USED THEM!!!! With a piggy back, or a reflash the stock engine protectants are left in place, so the car will addapt for fuel, temp and whatever else you throw at it. This will make it run as hard as possible all the time, but with in a safe range.

Its a whole lot easier to blow a motor with a Stand alone then modifying the stock ecu. Just ask one of our long time customers turned worker, david. He blew his wrx motor with a Utec for not setting the knock attenuation perfect. He used a reflash on the next motor, and never had a problem.

For the EVO, start out with something like our stage one, which is A reflash, (or xede piggy back) A turbo back exhaust, and a set of cam gears. This runs a little over 2k, and is great for most people. This will make about 55 to 70 Wheel hp more then a stock evo.

For the STI, I would run an Xede, and a turbo back exhaust. For not too much money, you can get quite a bit of power. This makes about 55-80 whp more then stock on our dyno. (The sti makes more power then the evo with less mods, just because of its displacement.)

We do this stuff all day long, and pretty much have seen it all, so if you want to know what we think works and doesnt work (like cone filters) Just give us a call.
