I was thinking the same thing on the exhaust, but notice it's a TDI they're showing. TDI's have this exhaust setup on the current B6/B7 I believe. Hopefully, the gasoline engine models have the dual setup, looks much better.

I noticed a few things about the interior. Center console looks higher than current cars. Seperation of the nav screen from the controls, unlike current RNS-E setup. Might make it impossible to upgrade to nav from non-nav cars.

Otherwise the interior looks really nice, sort of a cross between an A5 and the A8. I wonder what the little red light is up by the tweeter speaker on the corner of the door? Indicator light for blind corner warning like Volvos have? Looks like there's some kind of tinted window on the side mirror as well. Looks like they've moved all the dash buttons for ESP, rear window shade, etc. to the console around the shifter. Looks like push button start as well. Audi's MMI control knob as well. Hopefully better integration for iPod.

Well I think Audi can kiss all those interior design awards that they're so used to receiving good bye. What's with all the buttons around the shifter? Looks very complicated and user unfriendly. I can't believe they kept that ugly ass 07 wheel as well. The trim strip above the glove box doesn't span the entire length and makes the top half of the dash look huge (at least to me). I would like to see more of the seats though. Overall I love the exterior except for the rear of the car which is pretty disgusting. What's up with those hard angled lines right under the rear badge that don't seem to go with the rest of the car at all. The tail lights look like stretched out 3 series tails. Maybe the dual exhaust will help salvage this mess of a rear. I'm going to reserve my final judgment for the Auto Show when I'll be able to see it in person but I have to say this pictures are fairly disappointing. [:(]

absolutely love the front end.
back of the car is horrible.
interior doesn't give me the small sedan - sporty feel that I get in my A4.

overall, not a fan.

08-28-2007, 11:18 AM
front looks good, but as others have stated before, the back looks like a bmw. one thing i do like about the interior is how they placed the nav screen higher, not like the b7 where the screen is pretty low, and you actually have to take your eyes pretty much off the road to look at it

i hope they added better functionality to that same ol' steering wheel.... (i.e. press on the volume button and it mutes??)

interior does look like the A6... but also like a BMW

I see what you're getting at but I think that's only because of the cd changer.

I love my B7 but this new interior does have a fresh look to it.

that's probably because it's the 2.0TDI version of the car....

^^^uhh like stated above it's a TDi model, which explains the rpm range. as for the tails, they're ok, i can see the bmw lines in there but thanks to honda jacking the tailight design i can see why audi had to make some change. the interior of the new audis are still gorgeous. sit in a new model and you'll see it's not at all complicated and very clean. i too will wait til the new model hits the auto show. love the front.

LOVE DRL Eagle-eyes like LED. I like the overall package that Audi gives but
where's the upgraded motors?

If they want to keep up with BMW, they should do something about it.

V6 is getting old!!! put some turbos on!!!

Very Disappointed for the following reasons:

-Innovative LEDs, but could never be as bright as performance Bulb replacements in a B7. No dual lamps means boring or No Angel eye opportunity. Headlights look plain, simple, outside of the LEDs, cheep.

-Back end looks like a copy of a BMW 3 series. To many sharp lines. No longer looks classically smooth.

-Leather seats no longer look sporty. They look like Buick seats.

- Looks like they shortened the back end whereby increasing interior cargo room in the back and reducing trunk space. I love former Audi's for their large trunks!

- Classic Audi Temp controls reduced to Japanese copy. Boring Dials.

- I don't see a center arm rest. Hope there will be one. Center console where the arm rest should be looks cheep like what you would find in an economy car.

- Center air vents too low. Most users will more than likely aimed them up which will cause the system to create more wind noise when blower is set above medium.

- Rims are boring. Been done. Example: Volvo

- Hope they put in dual exhaust on premium models.

- Lastly the classic ball shift knob is gone. All real race inspired cars have balls for knobs! You really do shift better and the comfort is second to none.

Looks like Audi rushed the design process on this new batch. I put the car one notch higher than the new Mitsubish Eclipse. That's how boring this looks to me.

On the upside:

I love the new face. That's all for now until I see the S-Line and S4/RS4s. [:(]

They've been doing it with the C6 A6s and D3 A8s for quite some time now. It is just trickling down the line.

It seems like some of the interior and exterior styling look similar to the Acura TL.
Not sure I like the NAV up high like that??

I think the tailights look very honda like in addition to 3-series. I think alot of this info will be different for us in the US market (hopefully). I agree with most opinions about the interior changes. But that shrinking skinny back end....what were they thinking? looks like the newest civic sedan to me.

However, anyone read about the adjustable dampeners on the shocks??? :D

How is the 2008 a B8 when the 2008's are already out and they are still a B7. The B8 should be a 2008.5/2009 model.

most of you find the rear disgusting but isn't the rear based off the a5/s5 in which most of you find amazingly beautiful? I mean yea the a5/s5 rear does look like the new 3 series, but it's the 3 series coupe that it resembles not the ugly sedan...but whatever I mean your car's rear looking like a 3series is better then a civic right?

If anything Audi took the 3 series design and IMRPOVED IT! I HATE how the 3 series cuts off at the corner where the trunk is and has the fat turn signal at the bottom. The A4's taillights flow much better and I love the sleek turn signals. I can't wait to see them at night!

But of course whenever you introduce something new people are going to complain and wine about it. Let them run out of hot air and they'll be lining up for one at the dealership in no time. [drive]

X2...totally. That was my first thought when I saw the A5. I was like "wow, that's what the 6-series SHOULD'VE looked like."

I think the design will grow on everyone, especially once we see an S-Line or S4 come along. Remember that B6s and B7s look pretty mundane when stock, especially with the 4x4 non-sport suspension, and small wheels.

The B8 will only look hotter once modded.

I think the tail end has way too much 3-series in it. The interior is definitly more up scale, like an A6, however it does lose some of the 'sporty' feel. Front end is sick...like an edgier B7.

Once I see them and sit in 1, im sure I'll want one.

Seeing as that's just a facelifted B7, which is just a facelifted B6, I wonder if the interior could be swapped into a B6... I mean, the structure of the car looks the same as the B6/7, so it wouldn't surprise me if that was possible. Now I just have to wait for these to go on sale and someone to wreck a nice one with a good interior. [:D]

that is absolutely what the interior of the A5 looks like.....unless they are identical (which they very well could be), than it's not the B8 A4 interior.

The B8 is not simply just a facelifted B7, it's an entirely new car on a new platform. And it will be a 2008 in Europe, but a 2009 when it arrives here in The States.

Uhhh yeah, actually I do. Look at the pillars and the roofline. Aside from being made somewhat dramatic byt the style and angle of the photos, the pillar locations and windows look extremely similar. By "facelifted" I mean that this is not a brand new ground up redesign. It obviously still retains some of the base structural similarities with the B6 and B7. And the B7 interior is a direct swap to the B6, so nobody can argue that it wasn't a front and rear fascia change and a few other neat tricks. I'm not saying anything about the suspension, drivetrain, etc., and the exterior is quite similar, but the interior, I would bet, will bolt (clip?) right into a B6 or B7. This is all assuming that this is the final spec car, and not some crazy rendering magic or BS. And you know what? I would bet that the front and rear ends could pretty easily be grafted onto a B7. I would say a B6, but the beltline trim is a bit different, so you'd have to take the doors with it, and modify the rear quarters. Once you get to that point, you've completely lost the styling of your car, and for a lot cheaper, you could just buy a B8.

i have to be honest...

from all the pictures and vidoes, the s5 looked great inside and out.

after sitting it in the showroom, i really feel like the interior (which, clearly the new a4 more or less shares - not in size but in design) really isn't all that great. at least compared to the b6/b7 interiors.

it felt cramped (i know i was in a coupe, still), sloppy, the the uniformity in the tactile sense of all the buttons is gone, and so is the flowing intuitiveness of what to press for what function. for someone coming from any other dd car to an audi, the audi will surely trump what they are used to. but for someone coming from a b6/b7 platform, it definitely feels like a downgrade.

i still think the a5/s5 exteriors are incredible though.

I disagree. The side detail screams C6 A6 with the upswept contours and better proportioned window to sheetmetal. The B8 is more an evolution of the current B7 than an outright copy of BMW or Honda as some have posted. the side crease is more pronounced obviously but it still follows the previous shape. The B8 has the proportions that the B7 should have had, and sadly makes the B7 look dated in comparison IMO. The shorter overhangs are a welcome improvement.

i think that red led is that new 'audi side assist' feature, it blinks when someone is in your blind spot or something like that.
