Has anyone received their Audi European Delivery package from FedEx with a pickup date for the S5 in time for Oktoberfest?
I was surprised by the nice package, had a lot of useful information. Unfortunately my date is after the party ends... Oh well, can't wait to hit the Autobahn.

Can you post some of the information regarding Audi's European Delivery? I'm planning to get my S5 through European Delivery as well.

You should definitely go for it. Some of the benefits are the 5% discount off of MSRP, the chance to have the car in your hands early and to drive the S5 before it ships, Audi Factory and Museum tours, and paid hotel and limo transportation when you land - from the Munich airport to your 4 star hotel.
Most of the information is available on Audi's website here:
AudiUSA European Delivery Program (http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/experience/european_delivery/program_benefits.html)
Here's a link to the first package that I received from Audi last week: (http://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/8800.phtml)
Pretty cool, has a full "ThomasGuide style" atlas of Europe, Guide to Germany, CD, DVD, nice hardcover R10 book, backpack, and a nice Audi pen (not shown)
If you have the time, the European Delivery seems like the best way to buy an Audi or any European car for that matter. Audi's program is excellent and similar to programs offered by both BMW and Mercedes. Actually Volvo has the most comprehensive of them all - they actually throw in two tickets to Sweden on top of the other amenities.

One more question.....With European Delivery, does it mean that I don't have to pay extra for the prep and transportation fee that all dealers spring on you when you buy a car?

We are still responsible for the destination charge. It is quite reasonable though and compared to if we were to ship the vehicle ourselves, which would be much more expensive. Also, Audi allows the buyer to drop off the vehicle just about anywhere in Europe without an additional charge.

dudes (especially California types), make sure you read up on the "Use Tax". I almost did an M3 overseas delivery, but the discount ended up not being attractive after it would have been all said and done.
(snip)
Existing law imposes a use tax on a vehicle purchased outside of California and brought into California within 90 days of purchase. New legislation effective October 1, 2004 through July 1, 2006 requires payment of use tax on a vehicle purchased outside California and brought into California within 365 days of the purchase date.

Didn't they just do that with boats? People would buy then in Mexico, not bring them into the USA for 90 days, and then get them in without any tax!

With boats, if you stop in CA for even one day, you owe the tax. They probably closed the 90-day loophole. It used to be that way with cars too...people would just stage them in states without use tax laws. CA is an innovator in ass-rape tax, so they were one of the first to change it.

Oh, California, what an awesome state are we...

Thanks for the headsup. Actually we are required to purchase the vehicle at our dealership and pay registration, etc prior to traveling to Germany to pickup the vehicle. There are thankfully no hidden charges except 19% VAT if you don't ship the car in the alloted time. VAT is just a hold check that is given to the dealership during your travel in Germany. Once you return, it is returned as well.

Is anyone aware of a dealer preferably in the mid-Atlantic willing to negotiate a European Delivery deal at a set price over European invoice cost? There are many BMW dealers who sell BMWs at a price that is 11-12% below US MSRP by pricing at $1000 over European invoice. Thanks.

Unfortunately the Audi euro delivery program does not provide as generous a discount as the BMW program. The discount is typically 5% off MSRP. And you have to pay VAT upfront which is refunded when you take delivery in the US.
