So i was headed to my friends lake property which its out in the boonies over 1 hour from my house. anyways, 5 minutes from the place we pass a cop going the other way, he leaves me alone(im not speeding or anything). 1 minute later there is another cop headed the other way. once he sees my car he instantly does a u turn and pulls me over.

he gave me a ticket for not having amber reflectors in my headlights, although the law says the headlights must reflect or display amber which they do with the bulbs. then he also gave me a ticket for illegal exhaust because it was to loud. he didnt even hear my exhaust because he asked me to turn on my car and give it some gas while on the side of the road. that was the only thing i got a ticket for, but he even checked my window tint.

just remember that i have been pulled over 2 times for speeding, and i have never been warned or ticketed about the headlights or exhaust. ticket is $258 and i think it is unfair that i got pulled over for that reason. So im going to fight it and hopefully win. the cop thought i was some punk kid. he just gave me attitude and all that BS.

That is stupid. Take it to court and take pictures of your amber bulbs that dont break the law and if you can find out how loud is "to loud" and see if anywhere can test the dBs.

the exhaust is going to be hard or almost impossible to fight - because the law has left it to the judgment of the cops -

i think cali is 92 decibels (but i think the law reads: "MODIFIED" exhaust) so anything not stock is tickitable... sucks... well, he probably wanted to make sure you weren't out to kill people, because that's their job! jerks!

I think that its federal law to have an amber reflector(not bulb)on the left and right front of the car - look at any car out there, even the ones that don't have amber in the headlight have an amber reflector on each side of the bumper or fender. Its a DOT thing sorry to say. and for the exhaust I think that your only chance will be that he made you turn the car on. thats like pulling someone over with a sound system and telling them to turn it up, then giving them a noise ordinance ticket.

just sucks, i guess i will ahve to get different headlights since it isnt worth it. even if it is a DOt thing though the law says it has to display or reflect amber.....my car headlights do that. the law deosnt say i have to have the amber reflectors. my only choice for headlights are like 99 and up, just not the ecode verison. i know this cop stereotyped me because im young and i have a nice car that probably looked like a race car to him. he was a dick from the start.

oh well, im going to fight it. this guy was a dick. im surprised he didnt give me a ticket for not having a trash bag in my car.

Only in Washington...... They hand out tickets like candy up here! Just do what I do, hire a lawyer to handle it.

Sucks man, I'm sure you'll get some sort of deal if you fight it well enough. I got a ticket a couple months ago for my Euro plate. I was literally a mile and a half from my house and I got nailed for no front plate ($97 fix it ticket) and illegal/altered front plate ($242) I also didn't have my updated insurance on me because it was in the mail so that cost me another $242 for a grand total of $581 up the ass.
Luckily I got everything dropped and didn't have to pay a cent [:D]

Dude don't it cost you more in Lawyer fees than the ticket?

Well considering both tickets wouldn't result in any points, I'd probably either just
a) pay the tickets cause it's probably not worth your time nor gas to go back up there to fight it and a lawyer may just result in even more money, but hiring a lawyer would keep these off your record..
b) if you have ecodes, just throw your stock headlights back in one weekend and snap some pictures and maybe snap a picture of the rear of your car and photoshop stock tips on there.. or maybe if you know someone with the same car just throw your plates on their car and snap pics and plead by mail.. just make sure you license plate is in the pictures.. tell the judge your muffler was falling off and you've been having trouble with the car and you need it to get to school or some bullshit, but it has since been corrected.. If you go in there with pictures and proof and bullshit some story, you'll have a guaranteed win.

good luck!

Most definitely not. I used to think that way, but having looked into how much I'm paying every month for insurance now, I guarantee its more than worth the lawyer fees. Plus he's from Washington, and I have the number for 2 lawyers up here in my cell's that charge 200-300 a ticket. My last speeding ticket I got I paid $200 for a lawyer to handle it. Any type of moving violation justifies a lawyer. If they are just fix it tickets like the headlights than just throw on a stock pair, take it to court like that, and they'll drop it.

Having dealt with WASP's and local police its pretty ridiculous what they get you for up here. You'd think they'd go after the meth heads or something instead.

if you read the exhaust law, it says for and vehicle post 1975 or something it is illegal to modify the exhaust, but you would have to get pulled over by a power hungry cop for that one

damn that sucks i know how that feels with the exhaust ticket. i got pulled over once because of that but then he decieded to give me a ticket for no front license plate. o well $35 ticket ain't worth my time so i just paid it. But good luck if your gonna fight it man. Hope its a chill judge cuz my friend went in there and the judge was a bitch. luckly he didn't get his license taken.

i wonder when people will stop simply accepting tickets for this shit and just say no, i'm not paying that. the only thing preventing you from doing that is everyone is too scared to do the same thing. that'd be awesome if a whole city got together and just stopped paying speeding tickets. it would echo through the whole country and unite americans once again for the cause of freedom and french fries and stuff.

lol, i would change my headlights and crap, but the cop took pictures of my headlights and my exhaust.

i have been pulled over 2 times for speeding. the second time i pulled onto a highway full throttle with an undercover cop following. this is with my BT and everything all the way to the top of third. If my exhaust was to loud it would have been then, but i never got a ticket for it or have never even been warned. my car is actually quiet when im cruising on the highway which is what i was doing when i got this ticket. hopefully i can get it knocked off because he told me to rev my engine after he pulled me over.

What about Subaru SPT and Buscher racing who BOTH make aftermarket parts for STI's and EVO's. Have you heard the SPT exhaust? It's pretty loud and on top of all that, it's installed by SUBARU AT THE DEALERSHIP. What a pile of shit. If I ever got pulled over for an exhaust ticket I would just fucking point out those stupid redneck west side chopper + harley cock blocks. Those things are so fucking loud my car windows vibrate. That cop was a formal jacket and tie definition of a d-bag.

If its a fix-it ticket, even if he took pics all you would have to do is swap the headlights for stock on the court date, walk in and show you changed them back, and you should be home free. Same with the exhaust. That way you can just change it back whenever you want again.
