Ive done some searching and now im looking to get a feel of what everyone else is using. Pretty Much i narrowed down my choices to Giac and APR chips. Are there different models of each chip that maybe one is better than the other? or what are some of the advantages over the others that some of you have noticed?

....you got it all wrong man. You should have 3 choices

Doritos
Pringles
Ruffles

...btw...STFA... way too many opinions to choose one over the other... make your own opinion since both have different options.

definitely search the archives for opinions...tons of it too

but to summarize

GIAC=more aggressive...neck snapping feel

APR=smoother

nudespeed...smoother more conservative, but i also remember an S4 race with just chips and the neuspeed one won multiple times, not sure if the x-chip was involved tho, what year is your car?

the car isnt in my possession JUST yet. but its a 2000. end goal is around 380 whp. chip is the first performance mod it seems in these cars though. (down the road i would like to do a K024 is it ?the RS4 turbo setup) Giac seems to be the chip im looking at more and more however i dont know much on this neuspeed one so ill go take a look into that now...

Same here, heh

I'd really rather not see stuff like that here, though. Sure his question is relatively basic, but he's new to these forums and to Audi on the whole, so there's no need for that. He'll learn the ropes soon enough, I'm sure.

On the other hand, though, search functions are your friend. If you want to ask a question you think has probably been discussed at length, a search would likely answer your questions just as well.

and HOW! tdimpreza, I think you should consider Abt programming for your car, as well. Speaking from personal experience, the Abt program I've got is really quite nice. It's more agressive than the APR programs with which I'm familiar, but it's not quite as powerful as the GIAC-X program. As a result, the net horsepower and torque gains are slightly lower, but the power delivery is smoother overall.

good call S4Creep [:D]

I don't get it? whats so bad about telling someone to search the forum archives? Especially since 3 threads are currently going on the same topic. You guys know I'm helpful from all my posts in this B5 S4 forum its not like I'm flaming the guy. I'm mentioning it for his own good so he can learn more about the tuners and make the decision for himself instead of regreting it later. Personally I didn't even open an Audiworld account until about 6 months after I purchased my car, but for a year before that I was doing research and reading and learning. There is a rediculous amount of info to be learned.

A lot of people think that X chip is too harsh on their turbos and blame them for more turbo failures. Only way to know is to stfa and read their reasoning behind it. Anyway there shouldn't be such a fuss about telling someone to stfa, its better than repeating the same thing over and over again, and also giving someone bias info about chip selection just because they run a certain tuner. MTM is huge in the east coast and a great product too, but no one mentioned it. Someone mentioned Neuspeed chip which I've only heard bad things about. So I'm doing him a favor by searching the forum archives, like I said I learned a lot, and its alot faster and less bias than starting basic threads. My .02

SuperbSantorin - I know you're not flaming him and I was not specifically referring to anyone. I just thought it was kind of harsh that the guy's first response on this thread included "STFA". You are indeed helpful in many a thread and many appreciate everything you've taught them, I'm sure.

And I DO agree, the search function is something that would be a more efficient use of time rather than questiong the forums. I said myself in a post earlier that the search function is your friend. It really is the best way to learn about things on any forum.

I didn't mean to come off as jumping on anyone in particular, so I hope no one thinks that. I guess all the battles in the B6 forum* have made me a little leery, heh.

*if you don't believe me, read any thread that has to do with turbo upgrades. It invariably turns into a battle...[rolleyes]

thanks Imperial, i've been nothing but happy with the ABT thus far. I didn't know you were running it also.

Yep, been running the AMS/Abt program for a few months now and reeeeeally like it, especially 3000 rpm and above, haha!

I'm also running the Milltek catback, so it seems you and I have some serious taste [;)]

nice little piece on chips that i found when i was looking to purchase

http://www.isaacsrelocation.com/smokin_s4/S4%20Chipping%20info.pdf

went w/ the x chip - soo happy. Picked up a Greddy TT to keep them happy happy after i beat on them. After reading b/w the lines a bit - The fun part is picking the chip, the hard part is maintaining/extending the life of your turbos. Unless your ready to kick it up a notch. BAM!

GIAC X-chip, no doubt.

Everyone posts about what the chip 'feels' like, but has anyone dyno'd/datalogged runs with the different chips to see what they are running for timing curves, air fuel ratios, etc?

I would much prefer to be running a safe tune, as compared to something on the edge that feels faster.

Yeah, there've been quite a few dyno comparisons, but there was a big one done a while back on AudiWorld comparing the APR, AMS/Abt, MTM, and GIAC-X programs. I think you can search for it there...it should be buried in the archives, heh. Basically, the GIAC-X put down the most power, with the AMS/Abt chip in second.

And I completely agree with you in that I prefer safe tuning to quick but edgy.
