I have a question. If a PA state trooper is sitting on the south bound side of a two lane road and a vehicle is driving on the north bound (opposite side of the road) direction, is the state trooper allowed to radar the vehicle? I thought I heard that cops can only monitor the side of the road they are sitting on in PA? I know in NJ they can nab you from either direction. Thanks.

I think you'll find that cops can do whatever they want. It seems the couldn't care less what the rules are. Good luck in court.

Dont know if Im gonna take it to court. The only reason I would have is if the cop would reduce the points, but he said he doesnt do that. Looks like I just have to be REALLY good for the next two years till some of these points come off.

Look into it. No idea about PA, but around here they can nap you driving, sitting on opposite side of the road, etc.

Question, does the judge make the final decision about assigning points if I do take it to court?

Yeah I know that, but what Im saying is that if I take this to court does the judge or the cop have the ultimate say in dropping or not dropping points?

question if the cop had the final say why would you have the option of going to court to see the judge! [rolleyes]

Go to court. Your almost guarenteed to come out better just by showing up. And do yourself a favor and don't dress like a slob. Show the proper respect and you might get somewhere.

The prosecutor as the say on plea bargins, judges just have to OK them. I know in jersey you can plea down to Unsafe driving with no points, but the problem now is there is a new surcharge of 300 bucks, so its a $480 violation instead of points.

Points.....pah! Here in the UK we get 3 points for speeding and 6-9 points for dangerous driving....get 12 and its an automatic 6-12 month ban.....[mad]
Hey i was watching top gear here on sunday and they had an article on portable radar detectors. Maybe you guys all know this already but...apparently you can get auto opening systems on your garage that uses a laser projector mounted in your car and when you pull up to your home the garage automatically opens when it senses your laser.....well someone has discovered that these actually render the cops radar useless as no reading comes back and it jams their radar!!!
The trick is to hide it really well!
anyone else heard??

9 times out of 10 if you are there trying to get a lesser charge or less points. It is up to the Judge but he will always ask if the officer agrees,,,,
I had one awhile back and the officer was all for dropping to a lesser charge,, but the judge was a d*ck. So,,, I got 5 points and alot of other grief. My experience anyway and it has all been in PA.
As far as where can they hit you from? I think it is anywhere. They do not use mobile radar here,,, other than that they can hide behind whatever they want where ever they want. I got pulled over a few weeks ago in my Jeep and I still can't figure out where the officer was sitting.
