View Full Version : Quirks in Model Year Differences

This thread mainly has to deal with the differences in model years and the quirks I have seen.
I have a Nogaro Blue 2001 S4 Tiptronic.
Now my car despite having the old badges both inside and out has the Hitachi mass airflow sensor which I believe also means it has the upgraded oil feed lines to the turbos and of course the F hose delete because of the Tip.
It also has the revised throttle bottle boot.
What I was wondering and I'd like fellow Audizine members to chime in on are other quirks in the model years (specifically on tiptronics though others are welcome to comment) like I've mentioned above in mine with the old badges and upgraded internals and I've also heard on someone with old exterior badges and new interior badges.
I'm also thinking of debadging my car because the old S4 badge looks kind of out of place and its obviously an S4 because of the color so it's not like I'm trying to fool anyone. Any comments on this?
I've also liked the old S4 badge up in the A4 location on the top lip of the trunk. How does that sound?

IIRC from 2001.5 on the throttle bottle was converted to a throttle body. As it turns out the throttle bottle just didn't hold enough throttle. ;)

this is so random but i learned a new quirk in the b5 s4 line this past weekend...
i went up to frankie (illusive45) and asked him about his side mirrors and why they aren't silver....and i learned the 00 s4s dont have the silver mirrors! wow!
i love learning new things everyday.

The 2000's dont have esp...2001 and up have it- not just the 2001.5

You mean the aluminum mirrors? Those are only with the sport package. I coulda sworn i have seen those on an 00 though[confused]

I believe you are correct there ben. the sport package included the Alcantara inserts and the shimmy mirrors in al years if I remember correctly.

hmmm this is wierd cuz frankie's s4 has the sport package..but no aluminum mirrors! uhoh!

Nope. The polished side mirror covers were only available on the 01-up S4s with sport pkg. And yes, ESP was not available on the '00's as well...but I could care less about ESP.

Does anyone know how to check the exact manufacture date of the car?
I believe the switch between 2001 and 2001.5 happened in July.
I'm guessing my car was manufactured at that exact time so I got all the nifty upgrades but they just stuck the old badges on.
And any comments on debadging the car?

It is on the drivers door jam and S4's manufactured in and after October 2000 is considered 2001.5 and should have the new badge on the Tach not the Speedo and new badge on the steering wheel and rear trunk lid.
I just bought a 2001.5 S4 in April and that was what I came up with in my research prior to buying.
