My friends girlfriend owns a porsche boxter(2.7-liter dohc 24v horizontally opposed 6-cylinder, 5-speed manual,225hp/192lb.ft.) my 2001.
5 is quattro, manual and Giac chipped at around 210-215hp/205lb.ft. Everything else is stock. So he kept on bragging that his girls car will own my little a4 and challenged me 2 a race. Him and i got on a straight away at a red light. Green light hits, and i pull in front of him by a half cars length. Shift the car in second its still pretty close, shift to third im one car ahead of him, shift to fourth doing around 75 im 1 1/2 cars ahead of him. I beat him to the next light![race] I dont know much about Boxters, and i know it depends on the driver, but who was supposed to be the most likely to win??

ha, i was thinking the same thing... a 1.8T will be at the same speed at the same rpm no matter how much power you have... as long as the tranny is the same...

Your friend doesnt know how to drive... A boxster should have beaten you for a few reasons. Since the motor is mid engine and rwd, the drivetrain loss is much less than your Quattro. Its 225hp at the crank is putting down much more to the ground than your 210-215hp. Second, the boxster is much lighter than your car, around 400lbs difference. Seriously I dont see how your friend could have loss unless your friend was shifting at 5000rpm instead of at redline. To those that say the boxster is weak [rolleyes], on a road course, they can run circles around us. [:D]

I'm just glad his girlfriend owns the car.
Anyways, all of you who are saying to shift at Redline in a 1.8T are the ones who don't know how to drive. [eek]

While its true not to knock a boxster, at the same time, you cant give it too much credit.
Come on now, lets be real. Porsche didnt intend to be competing (in this case) with a simple chipped 1.8t awd heavier sedan and got a wakeup call (the owner) from our little speed wanna-be's
They dont call it the "baby porsche" for nothin.
[rolleyes]
Even if the guy wasnt a good "racer", how hard could it be? Its his girl's car.......... how many of you DONT drive your girl's car regularly?
I say good job, but at the same time dont hold your head too high man,
If you start thinking you can beat porsches, itll give you a false sense of confidence, and I agree w/ onemoremile, it should have been closer.

It should have been closer. Unless it is overpowered, and it clearly isn't, a mid engine Boxster should easily match a 1.8t Audi's launch. After that it has both a power to weight and a drivetrain loss advantage. Now if this was a road course the P-car would have lapped you in about 10 laps. Those cars are not designed around building speed but maintaining it. FWIW, when the Boxster was first introduced it was ridiculed for having the same 0-60 time as a V6 Camry.
