I almost never post on AZine but I have been spending more time on the classifieds etc but I wanted to share and get feedback from you guys as well.
Danny at FI (FastIntentions)is doing an amazing job on my car and I am hoping he is reading this ;) (*stroke - stroke*)
http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/4656IMG_2920.JPG
The car:
01 - Imola - 6spd
Engine:
Built motor: Rods, Pistons, Cams, Springs, Retainers (Stock Valves - too many too $$), Port polish etc.
Turbos:
Innovative Custom Setup based on T3/T4 setup
Engine Management:
Autronics SM2
Tranny: Stock with center diff. Clutchmasters stage 5 - twin disk clutch..
etc. etc.
http://www.audizine.com/gallery/data/500/4656IMG_2924.JPG
NOW onto the IC - I am thinking about either the ER's or 2 small side mounts from turbonetics liquid to air in the stock location.
Any thoughts ? Suggestions ?

Well Liquid to air are the best cooling you can get but are more expensive and harder to mount... the ERs are also nice you can't really go wrong with them
o and how much are you shooting for? Id say 500-600whp? O and please tell me youll take it to the track and put down some awesome #s as well
sfored
07-11-2007, 11:21 AM
the setup "should" do minimum 600-700 whp; the turbos are good for 450 to 550 each. IF spooling does not become too much of an issue .... well... we'll see...
When you say track .. do you mean road course ? or drag ?
Drag - I will definitely do. Road course... not sure if 1000 hp is a road course car but ... like I've said before.. we'll see...

what do you mean? Coilovers and a clutch should do it.. Maybe he rebuilt the tranny but don't think your TIP tranny can handle it

too many to list .. do you have a q on any particular item ?
JE Pistons
Pauter Rods
ARP Head Bolts - not studs
Port n Polish done by FlowWorks
Turbos are .36 A/R with the sickest wheel you'll find on the street.
lots of time and love..

u should put ram air ports in each headlight, cut out the low beam section and put it there, and then just use the projectors only, that would look SICK!!! dueal ram air rite into those monsters, does the hood fit over those babies???

I think you should go with the ER side mounts or ASP front mount and go with a water/meth setup. If the side/front mount doesn't work out sell them then go with the air/water cooled if you can find room for it in the engine bay [up] I would think that the above mentioned ic's with w/m injection should perform just about on the same level as the a/w cooler no? Pretty gnar project [up]

but im curious, are those turbo's DBB?? are you running external WG? and where did you get your manifolds/downpipes? custom built by fastintentions?

im sure they are 50 trims since the 50 trims have the BEST compressor map efficiency out there for smaller displacement motors, refering if your motor is built...1.5L per bank...

well. .. I am about to get some more work on the car... the WG on the drivers side is mounted on the turbo and the other side on the piping to keep the heights symmetrical..

ABS - want to use it but not sure how it will work with Autronics..
Autronics - I bought the harness and SM2 from KTR - they had a single turbo conversion car.. I also bought and will install the 500R - CDI box as well..

This is definatly a very good point. I wonder if they are dual ball bearing instead of just plain journal bearings. That would definatly help that engine spool those monsters up.

Great to hear that some of you keep on asking about updates. Well it is almost (i know i've said this plenty..) there. The Super custom exhaust has been finished and we are onto the wiring. The exhaust is 2- 3" joining into single 4" all the way to the back running a Dynomax exhaust in the back and out... if it is too loud.. we will put in screens or more resonators...
I'll keep the updates coming.. hopefully next will be a video clip...

You know I have been thinking about it and it kills me that I paid 1200 for so called sponsored set of blem set of suspension which blew 3 times within 3 months then you decide (nice of you I guess) to give me a set that works ( a lower level of not blem product to do it right). even though it is not a HUGE expense someone had to go through the trouble of installation on every set.
Send me a Fedex or UPS account # and I will send back your set.

I wondered what had happened to your car. I'll race you... to see who has a car back on the street first. :) If the spool is reasonable, that car is going to dine on GTs, mine included.
Good luck! I actually drove mine for a few weeks not long ago. Alas, the transmission came apart and is in New Jersey again this week.
Did you get the SM2 to play nice with the factory cluster? Johnny might be able to help with that.

Well it has been a long time in the making and has tested my being in MANY ways but it has finally cranked over (yes from the ignition :)
I will have a full write up on details once we finally get the car rolling around but I wanted to thank everyone whom has made this possible so far... especially to the last person to pick up this project; Turbo Joe. He picked this car up at a point where no one has been able to know where to start.. he knew exactly where to start and ALSO finish. What seemed very frustrating to me (mostly due to my lack of knowledge and experience) was a nice simple puzzle for Joe. Everyday the car is getting some custom Turbo Joe components in it and putting a bigger smile on my face...
BTW, what you hear is with a full custom exhaust; dual custom 3s into a single 4"

The question is, why do you care? The man said it took three years. It probably did. Why would you doubt it? If you want to know WHY it took three years, that's probably a better question.
My car took three years too. Why it did is another story, but generally speaking, when you're breaking barriers and trying something new, it takes a lot of planning, trial and error, and favors. When you're asking for help, and reinventing wheels, your project tends to get deprioritized because the folks you're depending on have to make livings in the meantime. Custom work like the kind you see you see in Ari's car is very expensive. If he paid full retail to have it done on a schedule, I'm betting it would have become exponentially more expensive.
Will you stop crying now?

Perhaps, my bad... yeah it took well over 3 years, because there is very little that is NOT custom on the car.. It would have been much simpler and shorter to build had I not wanted a monster which I can daily drive .. the ultimate sleeper with A/C and Radio, stock cluster, ABS on Stand Alone, CDI box, launch control, anti-lag etc.. etc.. kinda best of both world (IMO)
Making room for the turbos was not easy either... well room was easy the relocation of Power Steering, ABS, Coolant reservoir, brake reservoir ...
Not to mention that there were too many cooks in the kitchen before Chef Joe ...

WOO FINALLY! kk.. thanks! so do you mind if i ask how much you've invested in this? im just wondering, if something took three years, what the cost would be like! and is there an end in site?? i would actually love to know what this car will put out! (dyno numbers) what's u're target? 800awhp? 900?

...the ultimate sleeper with A/C and Radio, stock cluster, ABS on Stand Alone, CDI box, launch control, anti-lag etc...
Ari,
Indeed, that is an achievement. OE ABS and the OE Instruments on a standalone is no simple task. Is there an ESP/EDL defeat in place to allow ABS to continue working too? I assume that your Motronic ECU is running in parallel in some way?
Indeed, this Turbo Joe knows his stuff.

and what exactly was done with the " Power Steering, ABS, Coolant reservoir, brake reservoir ... " ?
PS - custom SSteel reservoir build by Joe - Size of a red bull can.
ABS- Relocated inside the firewall
Brake Res - Inside the firewall - lines rerouted from ABS

Cost A LOT over the years... 1 piece of advice I shall give to ANYONE whom wants to take on a job like this - do not think you can save $$$ by having A, B, C, D to various parts of the task. Have 1 person whom will take on the project from A to Z from day 1. Otherwise you will be stuck like me at the mercy of bunch of idiots whom know how to start a job but in reality do not have a clue in how to finish it... again A to Z.
HP - we'll see - I am not building a dyno queen - the A/R and the turbos I've chosen, copression on my motor, etc.. I am hoping to have a street drivable car that can make something like 600 whp on 91 :) and 700 to 800 whp (or more ) on C16. The setup is capable of doing over 1000 hp if I mod my turbos but it will be a dyno queen, single purpose drag car, which I am hoping to avoid... Supras are great for that :)

do you think 2 side mount ER's will be efficient for when the cars pushing around 1000hp ??
For the moment, side mount ERs have proven to be the best of the options. Front mount designs present many issues, and the ERs have repeatedly proven superior performance.
I believe ER is working on a front mount design, and I'll be interested in the results. However, I think we'll start to see significant advances in intercooling for these cars if and when someone builds a properly designed air to water solution.

HI everybody...I'm very pleased that some off you appreciated the sound of Arris S4 it was not a job ,but adventure to tell you the truth cos the fitment off 2 3in DP going to 4in mandrel bend piping and fitting 2 muffler boxes on a S4 is not easy task..I'm not necessary call my self exhaust fabricator ,I'm a engine builder and stand alone management tuner but i always do all my fabrications my self ..inter cooler piping DP ,exhaust systems act. I like to thanks Arri for the recognition of the job i did so far on his car ,as he mentioned is not easy to pick up where many other throw a towel down..i was originally hired for wiring and tuning stand alone management , but he seamed a little bit upset with his project cos people start giving up on his car so i hawed decided to finish all since my speciality in east coast was VW Audi and yet I'm building lot off turbo Honda's here in west cost ....it is my pleasure to finish hi car but truth be told i wish i started the project from the beginning my self cos i would did some things different but i work with what it is and tried do my best to make him happy[wrench]

Well i don't like to insult anybody but cali WV Audi scene is not as serious as east coast , I'm not talking about looks but balls .Everybody like to make power but limitation off at most K04 and chip = impossible so far Arri is the first Audi that is serious about making a statement so far i did turbo R32 and 2 20th anniversary 1.8T with fully built engine and stand alone . I'm bit disappointed but rest is all turbo and N/A Honda's But also proud to say I'm tuning lots of porsche cars for local shop in the valley can you say people got balls $100 k cars like porsche on stand alone yet somebody is stile entusiastic in investing in German cars [up]

A little background on Joe - he is orginally from the east coast... thankfully he is now on the West...
Standalone ???? He is the man.. sounds like I am stroking him but.... he deserves it.
He is doing things, people talk about .. but never accomplish...
He has done my wiring... exhaust.. and soon hopefully my tunning .. among a 100 other screwed BS by other shops...

Single turbo - Nice !!
That should be hell of a setup too... The evos at 2.3 2.5 L spin that thing like they are K04s... so the Audi 2.7 should too and make plenty of power...
Is his car running ? If yes - Any power #s ?
Do you have 1st hand knowledge of the revolver cams ? or the grapevine? I know the grapevine sucks on them.. but Whipple swore up n down that on a stand alone cams should make power... we'll see.. I questioned him plenty of times but got no responds from him lately..
Do you know the #s on the cams?
Jason(whipple) told me there are 2 versions of the cams .. mine being the aggressive ones... but dunno what the numbers from the cam page mean? with respect to my car since I have no idea which ones I have:
Duration / Intake: 248º
Duration / Exhaust: 258º
Valve Lift / Intake: 8.9 mm
Valve Lift / Exhaust: 10.5 mm

If I shift hard enough (feels soo horrible but sooo good :)) leaves some rubber on the asphalt - pulls like a freight train.
Keep in mind I rev to 8,200; I usually observe 8K-shift... it usually end up in the 6,000-6,200 range - where have plenty of power unless I am granny shifting but that means I am not racing :). On 3rd to 4th is lands about 6,600...yummm. I granny shift that gear often bec. i am afraid the clutch will give. so I let it fully engage then get into it.

Nice, nice, nice, BAMFTT'S
You will see in the lower Rpm, I wont fall flat ( off boost ) when you shif second, that's the most critical part when racing from a dig.
That's how I kill all of them...
Dude - no one has dared to race from a dig thus far. I have Twin Turbo Vettes; 1100rwhp M3s (umm $hit load of "claimed" hp over me)...they want rolllll races... ? [confused] ?
I will post up some smoookey :) launch vids later on .. with 1st/2nd...
Cant wait till I get some sort of cooling into the ICs... the bottom end tank of the ICs are on fire after 1 pull...do you have similar issues?

Very nice setup you have there. Congratulation. Do you have any idea of how you will make your head lights? That will be a very intersting part also.
I'm pretty sure that you would have kill that m3 really bad from a dig.

So Ari, what does the car do on 1 -2 shifts? The S4 second gear is so long that it probably falls on its face. No?
on the contrary - i'd want longer 1st and second... and shorter 3rd and 4th ..

Your car is fast, but not fast enough to warrant as much talking as you do. "no one has dared to race from a dig " If you were on the east coast I know a few cars that would humble you real quick. I didn't say I wont be impressed by a solid 10s car but in the big picture is a solid 10 second car really that fast to make you so cocky? I have a feeling your car will drop out of boost on your 1-2 shift, lets just call it a hunch based on your dyno graphs and S4 gearing. Not sure why you are laughing at the 118 sideways thing. Its hard to read peoples intentions on the internet. Me and my friends got a big kick out of it too. Looks like there isnt as much lag as I thought on 1-2 shift. My hunch was wrong, I can admit that. It doesnt make much sense but the vid proves it. Sorry to all the sfored nutswingers for asking your idol to take his car to the track. Hooking water/meth even if your on race gas will help a lot in cooling the air.
Your ER's will still be hot as hell, because you inject the sauce right before the TB so basically after them...
On my built, it dropped the iat's with a good 15 degrees at WOT, but it altered my AFR a bit on the rich side...
It all depends if your running open or closed loop with your widebands...

Do you have it regulated by boost or ? on at all times ?

regulated by map signal/boost

Really simple to install.

I did say you are cocky and that I'd like to see some track times. It seems like you agree with me on those 2. Sucks about the diff, that is alot of dedication though [up]
If you are trying to impress me with an 11.6 @ 120... I'm not impressed. The whole sideways thing is a joke, I got bored watching my friends run at the track so I decided to run my car twice on street tires the same way I run it on the street for shits and giggles. First run I came off the line soft and ran quicker and faster than 11.6 @ 120 (street tire, pump gas, no nitrous). Then I tried to launch the second time and it got sideways, I was havin fun so I stayed in it and was practically facing the car in the lane next to me as I went down the track til I finally caught traction. Lets just say last time I did a track rental I ran 7 or 8 times, ALL 10s passes. If anyone has seen me run they can tell you I run VERY consistent times with absolutely no drama. To be honest they look like 13s passes watching it on video LOL
I cant wait to see the runs but even more anxious about the track times. I should be in Cali in a few weeks so maybe I can check out the runs with simmply and meet you two. Good luck [drive]

Everything is relative though.
If you shift out of 1st at 8200, you'll drop to 4400ish in 2nd on a perfect shift with no wheelspin. 2nd seems to be a make it or break it gear on these cars.
I did all this math when talking with Guru about torque.
At 8200 in 1st, you have about 390 lb*ft of acceleration x gearing = 5600 lb*ft worth of grunt.
In 2nd at 4400RPM, you have about 160 lb*ft of accel x gearing = 1250 lb*ft of grunt.
So, you have less than a quarter of the accel you had in 1st, and the gap in gearing is repsonsible for less than half the loss.
Everyone with this gearbox has to deal with this to varying degrees.
As you know, to minimize this, rev the absolute piss out of the car in 1st and 2nd!
Enjoy your Beast. I see almost daily, through Guruman, how much fun they can be.

For the meth injectio location, it a question of physics.
An air-air intercooler can only cool down to ambient outside temperature, so if you inject the meth before the intercooler and it cools the charge air down to ambient outside temperature, then your intercooler can't do anything more.
If you let the intercooler do its job, THEN spray the meth near the TB, the meth can cool the already somewhat cooled air down even more. It could even cool the air to colder than outside air.
If you want to cool the intercooler, you can try an external spray onto the intercooler. That will evaporate, causing the outside of the intercooler to get colder.

Wheelspin could explain some differences between theoretical and real-life situations.
But, I THINK I can hear a second of not-as-insane acceleration just after you shift into 2nd in your falling-on-face vid. It may be the location of the camera, though.
My ur-Quattro has about 15% more torque at the wheels PEAK in 2nd gear than you do coming into 2nd gear, and my car is not spinning tires at that point. So my guess is you aren't either. Just datalog a run and find out!

Sick car man, I remember you starting this project when I still had my s4. If you're ganna get one of these RWD cars to run you from a dig your ganna need to allow them to run a slick or nice DR. BTW, Taza does make just over 1100 rwhp, but I dont think he can hook any of it yet. Id watch out for some vettes. If you want to race some M3s that can hook and run some good 60's you need to run an e36, such as card counter or Mike R. But both are east coast.
Also, why not race an evo or something? I know plenty out there that can plant 900+awhp.

Taza will never sell his car, unless he gets over 100k for it.

were you running the hardware setup 4+ years ago that you are running now??
I like how your setup keeps the turbos top side vs. placing them down in the heat hell of the motor.. Fuck it, just run open turbos with no filter next time on the dyno.

your funny man. give him slicks/ a sticky tire. You have NO CHANCE against a car that makes as much power as he does. Congrats you made 660awhp, it took you race gas and a shitload of boost [down]

I've been enjoying your build for a long time, and stood up for a lot of things you've said, but there seems to be a trend of you talking pretty big/putting down other people's cars. Your car is balls fast, and hasn't hit its full potential, but have some humility and stop calling people out all of the time. It's not the fastest car that ever was, is, or will be, and it's very far from it. Like I said, it's ridiculously fast and (to me) extremely impressive. But make friends for friendly races and have fun with it without all of the attitude and people will be a lot more receptive to it.

How much boost did it take? and on what gas? Im not swinging on M3s nuts, ask any of my friends, i hate on them all the time. Im just saying. That HPF car you ran was on 91 and Meth, and you were on race gas.
