View Full Version : Thinking about trading in my ___ for a ___

Need help. Sorry if this belongs in the chatter box...but, big decision.

Ok, not my A4, but going to trade in my wife's piece of shit Camry for one of a few cars:

Volvo S60 (only considering because it's 7k under MSRP)
Acura TSX
Infiniti G35 sedan
Lexus IS250 (yeah, not the 40k 350, even though I'd want that more!)

She really loves that stupid Lexis. She doesnt need a race car, I'd like her to get decent gas mileage (23/24 - 30/32), I want really good resale value (TSX and Lexus are in top 7), and I'd like to move her up a bit in class.

Any other suggestions??

Marty

Fit and finish-wise, you're probably best to go with the Acura.

All the others have large body gaps and tend to fall apart. We had a new (2007) loaner Infiniti given to us and it was already beginning to fall apart. The same goes for Lexus (though not nearly as bad).

Newer Volvos aren't that bad, but they are pretty much on par with (or slightly below) the Lexus.

Just a few thoughts for you.

thanks Doss....the Volvo can be had for around 26,500 with about 250ish hp, and a lot of options, (invoice is 30's). So, for the price, really considered it. My wife will decide on a car because it's "cute" or whatever...so, frustrates me.

Acura is nice, but a 4 cylinder 205 hp..heard it was sluggish prior to 2500 rpms.

My wife's camry...is 10.1 seconds 0-60...so, she wants it gone! But, not sure I need 300hp either.

If you go the Volvo route, go with a used low mileage S60R. You get lots of power, good brakes, and a little more style. They can be had in the low to mid-20s fully-optioned with under 30k miles.

The TSX will probably end up holding its value the best though out of all of them if that's a concern. That may be negligible b/c all of these will resale in the mid-high teens in about 2-3 years.

Yeah, the TSX was rated the #1 resale car in America. I like that...plus, with their reliability, etc. My wife just loves that Lexus though...but, I'm trying real hard to convince her otherwise. I'm trying to get the TSX for $500 less than invoice, with 3.9% financing until July 2nd.

when you are looking at these call the insurance company before you buy and see what the insurance quote difference is. My wife is looking at the Volvo, Lexus and Acura (same cars as you) right now. There was a HUGE annual premium difference between the Lexus/Acura and the Volvo. Chances are she will end up with the Volvo.

335 hands down

That really fits in this price range [rolleyes]

Id go with the Acura for reliability and overall a very nice car inside and out for the money!

If your going the Volvo route, Id follow Doss and look for a used S60R [:D]

When I saw the title, I was thinking "O shit, I Dont have time to part that car out now" Thank you for easing my nerves by making this about your wifes car [:D]

Have you considered the Acura TL. If I am correct, its like 260 horsepower engine and is eye candy, lol

If its for you wife, and solely your wife driving (maybe even with kids), I would get the Volvo. I would like to have that piece of mind that my wife is driving a Volvo, one of, if not, one of the safest cars out there.

Ps. B6 content in this thread is awesome

My Aunt bought one a year ago, and I drove it for a week.....I didn't want to give it back....That car was a lot of fun, had good power when it was needed, seats were comfortable, loved the handsfree bluetooth, I could go on, but thats enough for now....

Big suprise that everyone in here picks the fastest car...and in some cases recommends a car not on the list due to performance [rolleyes]

If its for your wife, and luxury/features are more important than power/handling...hands down the Lexus. Its packed with technology and feels much higher quality than the TSX or G35. I rode/drove all of these cars very recently since my friend bought a new car, and I agree with his choice on the Lexus. (I can't believe I'd vote the Lex over the new G35...i love [drive] ...but its obvious infiniti put too much effort under the hood rather than the rest of the car.)

they're diff classes ... but the is250 has paddle shifters - not a "wifey car"

and the tsx are for like valley girls or jersey girls

i'd take the g35 it's a more grown woman car as the volvo might be too "mom'ish" dunno ho wold ur wife is

also if u have kids - safety is a big issue so i'd get her an suv or a bigger sedan

I work for Nissan. The quality of an Infiniti is no better then the Nissan counterpart. The only way to get quality is the move up to a Q series. I'd take any of those cars over a G, hands down.

Thanks guys. I would buy the Volvo tomorrow, but she thinks it's ugly. I'm only going off of the pics online though, I'm going to take her to the dealer.

The TSX is more affordable than the TL. I'd like to keep it in the upper 20's, low 30's. She loved the G35 as well...so, right now I'm leaning towards the TSX and G35. The gas mileage is a factor for me too...she drives a lot, and I want the fast car in the family to be mine anyway! lol

I wouldn't do that to you shawn...I like my car, keeping it until 09...[:D]

what abotu a c 230 sport?

Hamann

ick..no, worst reviews, horrible resale value...worse gas mileage.

I think I'm buying the Acura TSX....getting it for $100 less than invoice. After 2 years, the "trade in" value of that car is sitting at 22,000, which will be $6000 less than I'm paying for it. Not bad. Plus, I'm getting a good interest rate...so I shouldn't be upside down for long.

The TSX was slowwwww, so I bought her the TL. Very nice car...fully loaded with Navigation/blue tooth, etc, etc.

She loves it....good, what a freaking relief.

lol

seriously????omg......the TL was nice...but the damn torque steer was a HUGE HUGE HUGE turnoff....wow....big step....considering your original choices....

Hamann
06-27-2007, 04:33 AM
My wife won't notice torque steer, trust me. She's more concerned about it being black on black, sunroof, leather, navigation, etc. I'm more concerned about resale value after 3 years, and enough room for the kids in the back. It's her car, but it's also our family car...we have to be comfortable.

A4ringedONE8T
06-27-2007, 06:00 AM
What like the A4 isnt comfortable?? [:D]

Hamann
06-27-2007, 09:56 AM
It is...that's why I'm keeping mine! lol

She has her tastes, I have mine. She loves luxury, I love sport luxury...

I wouldn't spend $37k on that car, but I'd spend $37k on a used S4.
