I "beat" a 325i, does this sound right?

Went for a quick run with my friend in his 325i. We went down to a local area thats deserted, about a quarter mile run. It was both of ours first time racing like this, so we didn't really know what we were doing.

He gave the three honk signal, I let the clutch out pretty fast on an upward swing of a 4000-4500rpm blip. I took him on the launch, then he started to pull up to the side of me. He said he let off early because he mistook another sign for the 1/4 indicator. At the end I had about a half car length on him.

I'm stock 98 1.8t.

What year 325i?

E36 - Yes u'd run one, E46 - Very closely matched potentially could run one, E90 you'd get smoked considering that car has the 3.0 liter. (330i having a newer 3 liter.)

I raced a guy on my way to OCMD back in '02. Can't remember if I was chipped or not. From a dig, he seemed like his gears were longer giving him a slight advantage.
I had to shift while he kept going for a couple cls. I think I was stock. My car looked better. haha-quattro vs rd

sorry to jump in on this i used to have a '99 E36 M3 myself.... at what speed did you "beat" him... i say that because i raced my friends EXTREMELY tuned WRX and up to 130 he was on me with a 2 litre with larger turbo, intercooler, fuel rails, suspension, EVERYTHING, boost controller, i could keep going, and past 130, my 3.2 L NA destroyed him.... just wondering... the M3 is a beast. I would be suprised if he was fully on it unless you have some crazy crazy shit done to your car. i used to take E46's for a run with my e36, and i mean M3's not 325's or 323's

The E46 M3s have 333hp at the crank, how is the 240hp E36 keeping up?

its really long and hard to get into this debate if you dont have a background of M3's ... ive owned both, yeah off the line 0-60 my first M3, (e36) was a 5.3 stock, and that was clocked with me driving.... my e46 was 4.8.... my e46 was always bone stock... in my e36 i added a short ram aFe intake that put 25 hp @ the wheels, dynoed @ ICS performance in stamford, ct. what im saying is the e36 wasnt a FAR cry from the e46... also, weight. my e36 was lighter than that e46 all around, steering, physical weight, a lot of differences and a lot of similarities in those 2 cars especially between the late 99 that i had and compared to the 03.... the engine is almost the same except the m54 can rev higher. the m54 engine in the e46 also had 6 individual trottle bodies one for each cylinder. if my e36 had that it would make that engine respond as fast as the 03 did, incredible idea by bmw. the 99' M3 was a 3.2L just like the e46, minor engine differences like that is what made that engine so diff. but for some reason 2nd gear and 3rd gear were not all that different in one to the other. the e46 was on top, but not by far, especially once my e36 was breathing easier. but still im sorry a STOCK 1.8T wouldnt take an M3 e36, e46, and maybe not even an e30. i had a 1.8T in silver for 2 months b4 going to a B5 S4, very dependable car IMO but i had a great deal where i could jump on the s4 and all can agree much easier to get HP from.

He was on it, it was a 95 BTW, I beat him up to 75 were we had to stop for a light, he then turned off. I am not a newb to bimmers either used to have a 533i with a 3.4l stoker under the hood, that thing took a few e36's as well. I know e36 m's have good top end but out of the hole this guy did not have a chance.

I raced my friend again last night on the highway. Two pulls, both from around 60-70 (didn't really pay attention). First time I downshifted from 5th to 4th, he had me by a nose up to 100. Second time I downshifted to 3rd and my body was even with his front bumper. At around 100 he started pulling on me, but we cut off around there.

I got the chip yesterday. On the ride home all the BMW saw was my rear bumper. 3 pulls, I destroyed him on one, another I had probably around a good carlength and a half from 70 to 100, then another I gave him about half a carlength jump and my body was even with his front bumper by 100.
