Went to the races last night and starting talking to a younger guy driving a 01 SVT Cobra. He invited me to ride in his car, so **** yeah, i rode the rest of the night in that thing. And let me tell you, it was effing awesome. He had a very very nice sounding exhaust on it, it had everyone talking about his car. Very very fast.

So I went down to my local Ford dealership today and drove a 01 GT. The shifting on this car was hands down the best feeling shifter I have ever thrown around. Very tight and very accurate. No messing up. It wasn't as fast as the Cobra of course. but it was ****ing fun. I want one very very badly.

Side note: They had 9 04' SVT Cobra's on the lot.

fast, yes. fun, yes. build quality? eh, i wont even bother. my friend had an '01 cobra. long story short, it fell apart with only 11k miles on it and he sold it because it was a peice. now he has an STi that can eat a cobra for breakfast.

Doesn't the SVT have like a Supercharged 389hp(underrated) and the STI have a turboed 300hp?

The 01 Cobra is nothing compared to the newer Cobra, which is supercharged like Audi_A4_Quattro said. So, you should try to test drive one of those 2004's they had on the lot.

Hahaha, keep in mind kids. I said nothing about the Cobra's build quality being anything better than Lego craftsmanship. I just said it was funner and faster than shit. I couldn't ever see myself buying one, if I had to finance it. If I had tons of money, i'd by one just to go fast though.

oh yea, forgot to say that its modded to roughly 420hp. awd = key.

GT=big skip. New supercharged SVT cobras are monsters though. A couple bolt ons and you have 500+hp to the wheel. 1 intake mod on the cobra and thats 40hp gain. I'm not positive but I think the STi doesn't stand a chance against the new supercharged cobras.

My step-brother has an 03 Cobra supercharged. He has done a few bolt on mods and that thing and is damn fast. BUT....the biggest problem for the Cobra is traction....it has none. The STi would eat it up in a drag race.

in a issue of HOT ROD Magazine, they compared the 04 SVT Cobra vs the 04 STi. The STi, yes even with 100 less horses, beat it in EVERY performance category. acceleraton, qtr mile, braking, corning.... etc/

I've seen different results in different magazines. Some show the the STI faster and some show the Evo faster (for instance, I have seen 0-60 from 4.6 to 5.3 for the Evo).

I do know the STI has more horsepower (300 & weighs 3298) compared to the Evo (271 & weighs 3263 or 3321 (w/ sunroof)). So, it's not like one is blowing the other way really. Of course, the 2005 Evo will have some more horsepower.

I am not sure. I would assume it would be released soon if it is a 2005. The more newer, more powerful EVO is the MR model (5+ hp, 6 sp & other stuff). Here is the mfr's link:
