View Full Version : Question to all GIAC users
I installed a GIAC chip about 1 1/2 months ago. The chip is great, but it's giving me the biggest headache. I have a 2004 1.8T 6M. Whenever in high boost, my intake pipe pops off my turbo leading my car to completely die. I checked my turbo gauge and it reads that my peak is at 1.4 bar. 1st question, why does my intake pipe keep popping off my turbo? 2nd question, I thought most GIAC chips peaked at 1.1-1.3, did I get some $#@%ed up chip?

What's so great about the chip?
Well, before I started having problems, it seemed like a brand new car when I chipped it. Like everyone's impression after they got their car chipped, it seems like the car is reborn with an attitude. But now that I have this problem, I'm not enjoying the chip anymore.
I asked the guy who put the chip in my car and he said the code of the chip was "AK 28"

1.4 bar=20.5 PSI is just to much boost for K03, I would take it back and have them install the right chip (1.2 bar)

Yea zemun2 is right about running boost too high on stock K03. Maybe when you decide to upgrade your turbo to something bigger then that chip setup would be the way to go. Take it back to the installer and have them flash the proper one.

Looks like someone is about to "start" something yet again... I just LOVE this F*CKING FORUM! :)
The guy likes it, just as much as you love your REVO, or whatever the hell you have. :)

Looks like you got the X chip like Saturnine said. What I recommend you do is clean off any residual oil from your IC hoses, and invest in some good T-Bolt clamps. Your pipes are popping off because you are making a good amount of boost, much higher than stock. You can also use your stock clamps, but make sure they are plenty tight. 1.4 bar is nothing to worry about, what you need to do is look at your EGT temps, knock sensor voltages, and look for any audible pinging, if all are looking good, you should be fine. Also invest in some cheap copper plugs, they will increase your MPG's as well as make your boost a lot more linear as well as lower your combustion temps by up to 20deg compared to the OE platinums. I am running 1.5-1.6 bar with my boost controller intact when I'm on 93 octane, and 1.2-1.3 on 91 octane pump.
It is very easy to hit 1.4 from 1.3, factors such as temperature, air density (which both occur on cold nights...aka "turbo weather"). There is no real way to keep boost EXACTLY at a certain level. Our cars are equipped with a safety feature that actually lowers air mass (assuming the density = mass/volume formula) by lowering boost to compensate (air mass metered by the MAF sensor), to keep your car running at a certain level in all weather conditions (or else you'll be seeing 1.6 bar easily on winter nights). Nice safety feature, but sucks for tweekers like me. :(

I dont have REVO I have Nospeed.
Guys, I'm all out of ideas and I don't know what to do. I cannot drive my car normally, because everytime the hose pops off, my car dies. Should I just take it back to the dealer? I know it's gonna be rapage but I can't even drive my car now.

i think zemun2 gave you the answer to your problems... dealer would do squat except over-charging you...

Which exact hose is popping off? The one connecting to the throttle body? I had that hose pop off all the time before. You might want to REMOVE that entire hose, clean out all the oil and residue, and buy some new clamps and tighten and reinstall the hoses.
-Jeff
It's the intake hose that connects from the turbo and directly to the MAF, and then to the air box.
And is there any specific clamps I should get?

Wow. That hose is NOT under pressure, and should have NOTHING to do with extra boost. But either way, it is coming loose causing your car to stall. It is loose, all you have to do is remove and reinstall it using the same clamp, be sure to tighten it, and you should be good to go. :)
-Jeff
But I did that like 10 times already. Do you mean like removing the whole hose, clean it and then re-installing it? Why do you think it's popping off?

YES. That is what he just said. Do it to be safe. Get some new clamps if you have to.

Maybe its popping off because of the air rushing back to the intake when you let off the gas.....just an idea. Because Ive been running a 1.4 bar GIAC for almost a year now and Ive had NO problems.
Thanks for all the help guys. I'll try to fix it and if not, dealer it is.

Jeff is right, clean your intake hose and see what happens.
How many miles on your car?

Your intake should be clean then, and if you have some oil then that might mean you have greater problem.
My car has 11K on and I took my intake off and it was spotless.
Well I put in a cone for a while, and yes I have some oil in the Intake Tubing

Clean it up and make sure you clamp it on tight.
