So.......I love having the quattro badging all over my ride but nearly no one knows what it means unless they drive an Audi or maybe another type of european car. Other than that I tell my friends, yea it has all wheel drive, and there like REALLY!
It's kinda annoying. Wish it woulda just said AWD instead of quattro. Is quattro any different from AWD? Anyone else have to get repetitive and tell everyone that it has AWD cause they don't know what quattro is?

Most cars now dont just say AWD, especially the german ones. They all have a name for their system like 4motion or 4matic. The Bimmers are xi.

And with Audi, it's even more confusing since when Quattro first came out, the car itself was called a "Quattro". So for years, I always thought the "quattro" badge was the model of the car. Until a former co-worker got an A4 years ago, and I asked him, what does "quattro" mean anyway, and he said AWD.
It was a while before I discovered that "4Matic" on the MBs stood for all-wheel-drive too. I used to think it meant it had a 4-speed automatic tranny. [;)]
I guess if a car's badging has the number "4" in it somehow (quattro = cuatro = "4" in Spanish) then chances are it means AWD. Except for BMW, where an "x" in the name means it has AWD.

I love how we have the quattro badge on the interior trim.....when ppl ask about it, i get into a whole big conversation about how the drivetrain works and how it is superior LOL. I love when I go on and on about my car...making ppl want to buy an Audi.

LOL......X2. PPL will be talking about how great mercedes and bimmers are and I'm like "did you know that Audi is made by the same ppl that make Lamborghini and Bentley....."

Well, that is a partial lie. While they are in the same family, little tech transfers from Bentley and Lamborghini to Audi. I'd venture to say just about none transfers to the A4.
There's a large difference b/t being in the same automotive family and being developed/engineered by the same company.
Audi/Bentley/Lamborghini aren't as integrated on platform/technology sharing as Ford/Mercury/Lincoln or Chevy/Hummer/GMC. That is not a bad thing necessarily. It's just a different company philosophy.
Yes, I know many practices and methods have been shared in the family (unfortunately making Lamborghini more German than Italian), but I don't believe it's correct to say that Audi is made by the same people as Lamborghini and Bentley.... that's just not true.

I made that assumption due to the fact that american cars that are made in the same family usually use similar platforms.........noob mistake, my bad.

I don't think is the same either.
The only two companies under Volkswagen-Porsche group that seem to share a lot is Audi/VW. Porsche is pretty much on its own and seems to be pretty irritated as of late with Lamborghini and Audi.
Their views and opinions are always on the automotive news boards. That's what happens when you have several companies in the same family building the same kind of cars at the same pricing points (VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Skoda, Seat).
Audi has been at the forefront for irritating all the other family members though. It offers VW competitors and a Porsche competitor and has so far refused to "fall in line" with the other branches.

I wasn't trying to be mean. I was just letting you know that it wasn't the same as the American platform/tech sharing that we are used to. The Americans like to take a car and basically reskin/rebadge/rename it and call it a totally new model.
VW and Audi seem to do this to some extent, but not as bad as the Americans.

I will once I get a little free time. I have to start writing a little software program for a new business venture right now.
If you haven't noticed, I usually have a lot of free time to research. LOL

Lambos use RNS-E for nav, so a little Audi interior flair for those owners
