well first day of liscense thought i'd run the car a bit the right way. so me and my friend raced haha. he has an eclipse gs and my car is pretty much bone stock as u can see in my signature, plus he had a manual and i had a tip, had the lead all the way up to 100 then just let off. made me really happy for the first day![race]

My neon ran 16.5's spinning through 2nd. I didn't see a chip in your mods. I know a tip 1.8 w/o a chip can't beat a man. 2.0 gs with a good driver-no offense.

Don't forget a Neon is lighter than an Eclipse... Not to mention that the way the power is delivered on the 2.0 is different than that of the 1.8t.... The 1.8t has torque across pretty much the whole range while the 2.0 peaks in the higher RPM range... Yes, they can beat a 2.0 Eclipse... Stock for stock...

Yep since it is the weak 2 liter Neon NA engine. If you are turbo it would be better to run against a stock GST.
SeanF
06-03-2007, 11:33 AM
except thats not fair, they have 60more hp stock for stock...
GSX would be the closest, since its awd, but it still has more power...

The 2 liter has either 150 or 170 hp... I don't know where you come up with the 60hp difference?! Or even if it was the SOHC it would have 135...

Correct, the GST and GSX came with 210 stock. I used to own a copper 95 GST (rare color on the 2G)

the gst and gsx are fast cars. You can really crank up the boost on the stock turbo and it can hold it no problem.

couldnt have said it better myself, not the best idea to go out racing the first day you have your licence, trust me, i crashed my eclipse gs racing...you think your more experinced driver then you are, coming from someone who paid dearly from their mistake, take it easy for a while and dont try and be a hot shot

IMO you shouldn't be able to get a license until you're 18 in the U.S.
when my friends and I turned 16 I swear we almost died like ten times because everyone is terrible at driving. drivers around us probably shat themselves more than once! add a group of friends in the car and nothing good can come out of it...

wel that would still be the case if they're 18,sure they will be a bit more mature but still not expierenced at driving.you'd be suprised on how much you can learn on the road in two years.but i agree friends in the car usually mean trouble!!!

Racing from stoplight to stoplight isnt impressive and is reckless. Encouraging a 16yo with little or no experince to street race is wack. And if if i was an advocate of street racing. saying that you raced a GS eclipse is nothing spectacular b/c that car is slow. Here's a very recent example of when kids race;
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/ny-lifata0427,0,2767626.story
When emergancy services showed up with the jaws of life they didnt need it cuz their bodies were thrown into the woods 100 or so feet away from the car.

unless a DSM has a turbo on it, its not something to be proud of beating. I have a '91 that will flog most B5's, but its not something I go around bragging about (cause its still a peice, even though its fast)

No offense, but what about the 45 year old guys that drink and drive every day?
I'd rather have 16yr olds than drunk morons going the speed limit-you know they're out there. Stupid is stupid whether you're 16 or 18. Looking back 21 doesn't seem old enough either but I wouldn't change it.

What about a 16 year old drunk moron? Plenty of them too. But man I hear ya. I would love to see a cop out side the bowling alley on mens league night. They would run out of handcuffs methinks.
I think the drink and driving message gets out there alot. I don't think the don't drive like an idiot message gets the same press. i am sure there are way more DUIs than street racing accidents. But still. I would rather not get hit by anyone drunk or racing.
There are just a lot of young kids on here with new freedoms that really think they are invincible and are testing their boundries. Others who have been there done that or not done that because they actually believe their actions have consequences should put them straight.
In my opinion WTF are you going out and racing a GS? Is that race even worth putting anyone at risk. Might as well be racing lawn tractors as I posted above. Actually that would probably be alot more fun. there are plenty of ways to risk your own life and not hurt others. Hop on a mountain bike and head down a mountain. Don't wear a helmet I don't care. Play rugby or football or lacrosse. Step into the ring. All more ballsy and impressive than pushing your foot down at a stoplight in a car your daddy and mommy bought you when you turned 16.
Bottomline the roads are for everyone. Its pretty selfish to put others at risk to race another slowass car or down drinks and get behind the wheel. This kid should sell his audi and get a bike. Then it is probably only him that will get killed if he continues to do stupid shit.

Just be safe.
I'll take a safe run from a dig in the middle of the night from a light.
I don't know about all of you, but I don't have any good access to a track so I'd never enjoy a race if I didn't do it the wrong way.

It probably took a long time before it was risky if you know what I mean. That's like 17 seconds to 85mph.

ok ive done lots of racing on the street and i have seen many bad accidents and im only 19. but those accidents were caused by stupid decisions!!! every time i race im carefull on my decisions and wont race if im nervous about something. you just need to no your boundries and be careful. and i agree your first day on the road, racing shouldn't even be thought of. i just suggest you do it somewhere open and with little to no traffic!!! we all no most people do it so lets just think of it that way

thats what im saying,i KNOW a lot of people who use the street to race, and i can understand why they dont go to the track. for one thing there's only 2 i know of in jersey(atco, englishtown)both are a good hr15mins. away and then you have to pay 20bucks to race, which even then you'll end up getting maybe 7runs in if your lucky. i say if your going to use the streets do it safely and think of others, hence the open roads with little to no traffic!!!
theskuh
06-04-2007, 09:20 PM
You don't get it. Maybe your group of friends uses the street to race. Out of that little world that you live in it is an accepted norm. Take a survey of all the people who use the street not to race, just to drive from point a to point b safely and see how many of them street race on a normal basis. I am sure it is a very small percentage.
This miniscule percentage of knuckleheads (you included) are putting the larger percentage of people who just want to get from point a to point b at risk. I am glad you do things to minimize that risk. But as I said before you are not entitled to race on the street. Especially if your reason is you don't want to pony up $20 and drive an hour.
Street racing is that stupid decision you are talking about. You can try to make it as safe as possible but you are still putting people including yourself at risk just because you want to call someone out. Go prove your manhood where you are not endangering others.

well this is where you see it as these (knucklehead)friends of mine go out just to race,we go out to cruise around and if someone wants to have a little run, sure why the hell not. i'm sure most of us on here had our expierences of "street races",its not a daily thing for us,and by us i mean my friends and i.

I can't speculate about this persons intelligence and racing your first licensed day of driving is a big unnecessary risk, but I don't know if this guy has car control, for all I know he could be a trained driver or a shifter cart champ. Street racing is dangerous, but in the middle of the night on a open road blah blah blah...

I mean no disrespect to anyone on this board. How many of us are "tuned" in one way or another? Is this car your daily driver? How many of us break the speed limit regularly? Have you ever seen a car aggressively attempt to pass you and you then accelerate to show him what you got? I am not here to condone street racing or speeding in general. If you can avoid it, that would be the wisest decision. If not, please be safe.

Street racing is bad mmmkay...
Everyone "races" once in a while on the freeway expressway or whatever just to see how your car compares but racing on local roads is dangerous.
No matter how careful you are you can't account for other variables like road conditions (potholes or other imperfections), kids running out people pulling out of driveways without looking as well as other things. At a high rate of speed there isn't much you can do but scream oh shit and brace for impact.
