I posted this here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136408

In that thread, I was talking about a potentially bad wheel bearing, even though I had just changed it 2 weeks earlier. I tore it all apart last night and brought the hub to the machine shop and he assured me that the bearing that is installed now (from 2 weeks ago) is still good.

I am getting a terrible noise and vibration that is in time with the turning of the rear driver's wheel. As I go faster, the sound is heard more frequently. Last night, I got out of the car on a road with a very slight slope and walked next to it as it rolled. I could very clearly hear some sort of binding or rubbing noise from that wheel.

What could it be? Warped rotor? Stuck piston? The car brakes and handles fine, although the vibration is getting intense. The axle boots look good. The bearing on the other side was changed last year.

Any ideas? I have half a mind to take it apart and remove the brake pads then put it back together and do another ultra low speed walk along roll and see if the sound is gone. I don't want to push the piston out of the caliper though - is there anything that will stop that from happening or am I going to have to stop the car myself - meaning fred flinstones-style?

So it sounds like something is hanging up? Could be a sticky caliper piston that's hanging up the pads.

Would that cause a violent vibration? The last time I drove the car it was horrible @ 50MPH...

Where do you feel the vibration most--in the wheel, seat, ?

Hmm. Let's say that the objects in my center rear view mirror were vibrating. It was almost the entire car...The sound seems to be concentrated on the rear driver's wheel.

Hmm, odd. Are all of your lug bolts tight? Had your wheels/tires balanced recently?

Funny you should say that...

It was the lug nuts. I used a torque wrench to tighten them, but I think the fact that I didn't snug them up before using the torque wrench gave me a false reading on the wrench.

The lug nuts were loose.

Sometimes it's the simple things...

I felt like a TOOL last night. I hadn't driven my car for 3 days thinking something terrible was going on and never bothered to check the simple crap.

Glad to hear it was something simple and you're back on the road. [drive]
Enjoy your weekend.
