ive only had a few road race encounters in my days. and the majority have been either gts or mach 1s and one cobra. i havent lost to a gt yet and i think the cobra was completely stock and i beat his ass. yet the mach 1s always put up a good race. of the two, one guy i know personally and i know the car is ridiculously modified and i was dead even with it throughout the set of races. the other i just raced today was a narrow win and the only thing i could tell about this car was that it had no exhaust tips. whats the damn deal with these things?

stock mach 1 shouldnt be a problem.... when they start doing bolt ons is when it can get a little crazy... buddy had a mach 1 with all bolt ons and it would be doing high 11s which is without the supercharger...

Was this "ridiculously modified" Mach 1 in FL or NJ? If the latter, was it white?

he goes to school in florida and lives in new jersey like me. its red and black and its quite possibly the loudest thing ive ever heard aside from the stealth bombers that flew of dolphin stadium for the superbowl. you can hear it from blocks and blocks away in my house. im pretty sure he has every single bolt on possible except for forced induction and he kept dead even with me until 170. ill ask him tomorrow.

Newer, not newest, style Cobras can rape many things. Mach 1's aren't much more than a fancy looking GT. My buddy pulled on one (70+mph) and ended up about a car ahead at 90mph. He was in an 04 STi with turboback and intake. They aren't anything special in the muscle car world. I'm not a fan of mustangs at all, except the Cobra and Saleen (if you can still call that a mustang) but I am mostly into Camaro's and TA's and Vettes in the world of Muscle Cars. Then pretty much anything Audi rules.

My brother has a mustang that we are currently building a custom turbo on, 8psi 400 rwhp, should be fun, but anyways for those that are interested heres a breakdown on the mustangs. In 96 they all switched to the overhead cam 4.6L motors, the GT had 2v heads and made 215hp and was worthless, while the cobra had 4v heads and made 305hp. In 99 the GT was bumped to 260hp which it retained until 06 when the new mustang came out. The cobra was only bumped to 320hp, although ford had some issues with the amount of power the car was making which ended up being closer to 300. So the following year there was no cobra, and it was re-released in 01 with the adverstised 320hp on tap. Again in 02 there was no cobra, but in 03 they released the supercharged cobra. The car had an iron block vs. the old aluminum one, and a fully forged rotating assembly that can handle around 800hp. The car made 390hp and tq, but they are definately stronger than what ford rated them, I have seen a bone stock one put down over 350 rwhp and 390 rwtq, you do the math. These are the ones to look out for, they can easily make 450 to the wheels with pretty minor bolt ons, and with an upgraded blower theyll make well over 600 to the wheels. Now the mach 1 uses the same all aluminum 4v motor as the 01 cobra, but the heads have been worked over for more torque and the car was rated at 317hp although any stock mach 1 will pull on a stock 01 and older cobra. Most cobra's/mach 1's put down at or above 300 to the wheels with bolt ons, and with a blower usually in the 400s, but the 99 and newer aluminum block is definately a week point, although a 96-98 aluminum block is one of the stongest to come out of the ford factory, and as to why they switched I have no idea. Lastly the 06 and newer GT's have 3v heads and make 300hp, quick cars, but shouldnt be a problem unless their blown. So in the end I dono if they was any point to this, I'm just bored and glad I wasted your time reading about rustangs. Ha cheers.

Cobra > Mach1
Like someone said earlier Mach1s are just a glorified GT.

no its not, its the pre 03/04 Cobra motor (4v) tuned for more torque off the line with lower gears out back.

yup my neighbor has a mach 1 and its damn fast stock..i think they can do high 12s from what i have seen and what i have been told. It isnt like a GT at all. Different engine. Its the 4v like ^ said. Very nice looking, and fast car. Alot of torque...i was in the car with him when he ran a new corvette..not the zo6 but it had exhaust..and he got him by a car or so.

Exactly, it's basically a cobra w/ different cams and gears. They can be very quick. I've heard of guys running 13.3's on only drag radials and a k&N.

actually ive heard of mid to high 12s with just drap radials

Ya with some sticky tires, these cars have a lot of potential. With just dr's, gears, exhaust, and a shifter my cousin hit a 12.80 first time out in his mach 1.

Is he stock? In my experience, they just aren't that fast in comparison to like cars.
And what is he beating? I mean, bye bye could mean he fly's by a Taurus. I doubt him on radials would be bye bye bye bye bye if going up against my buddys 900+hp drag car. It's all relative to what car you are comparing it to.

I did some runs with my friends old body style(not sure year...) Cobra. Just full exhaust and 4:10 gears. I beat it by about a car length up to 100ish. Im ASP Stage 3.... they are fast though. I could never own one though. American muscle FTL.

I mean I don have anything serious im stage 2 6spd and I cand rive my car real well, but I mean He has just about every bolt on and cams and this thing strait kicks my ass (2-3 cars and the thing stil lets loose through 2nd)
Edit: the biggest thing with mustangs are who driving them. . . My buddy has a TT (60 trims) 5.0 running on the stock T5, not sure what he puts down but im sure it alot, on the stock trany (not stock clutch) he made 50 passes at the track and it finaly blew up about a month ago b/c he was stupid and grinded 3rd and it went BOOOM~

It's always funny to me when cars that are so different are compared. I own both a Mustang and an Audi, I love both but can't compare the two (looking to purchase an S4 this week and then maybe I can:) ). First you have a German 4 door sedan with TT and an American Muscle V8 coupe....I'm sure the S4 cost more to buy and it costs more to modify. People making fun of a stock Mach 1 who have Stage III spent how much money to get there? $7K? You give me $7K to put into a Mach 1 and we'll see who's laughing. I have a 93 5.0 with suspension, drag radials, gears, headers and 75 shot nitrous. In all I've spent about $7K on the car including purchase price and I run a 12.1 at 112 mph w/ a 1.6 60 ft time. I have 268 hp and 356 tq. You do those things to a Mach 1 and you're easily in the 11's. Speed is only limited by how much money and driving skill you have.
Sofia was right, "They aren't fast compared to like cars". I'll be the 1st to say that I wish Ford would put a 5.8L motor in their cars like GM's 350, but they don't so they over compensate with superchargers now.
No flaming here, just wanted to make my 1st post[:D]

Um I spanked a Mach 1 and Bullit GT and I only have a few hundred in mods... and i bet i payed less for my audi then they did for their stang. but they are sick cars... be fun to have one and get the back end loose and have the V8 roar.. or to supercharge one and kick ass at the strip

Some of you guys are a bunch of retards on this forum.....what do you hear something from some of your local ricer buddies and assume it's correct, it's the B-Headed motor from the 01 cobra. It's a DOHC motor, not a SOHC like the GT. They are actually one of the fastest NA mustang ever made. You should check your information better before you go spouting off more bad information on the internet.....you AND Jesse S.

You're not a very good driver than.....You shold be trapping over 112 even on pump gas, a geared exhaust sn-95 or even 99-01 would not hang THAT well.
Here's my 99 M3 with intake/exhaust/underdrive pullies against my best friends 97 cobra (which is lighter than a mach 1 btw). And if you're stage 3 and only pulling him ONE car, and my buddies cobra has every bolt-on possible + gears + more and i'm pretty much dead even with him, maby I should come race you, sounds like i'd have no problem hanging [confused]. My race with my buddy was from 40-125 to 130ish and it took him 3 gears to pull back up to me side by side.....

thanks for setting the record straight. [up] way to much bullshit gets put out there on internet forums. LOL *dressed up GT*....you're thinking of the bullitt and even still it has a different intake plenum, pullies, gears, brakes and exhaust.
