I don't want a donut, and was considering buying a fifth matching wheel for my set. However, when I tried to put my Passat's full size spare in back of my avant it didn't fit. This is frustrating, and I don't want to leave it to take up cargo area.

the sedan came with a full size spare but the Audi could not make it fit in the Avant... I have a donut but I have never used it... I think if I got a flat I would just call AAA.....

if you have aftermarket wheels then the donut will not fit/work. I put my donut on to have a tire removed/installed and the whole 13 mile trip the front end was noisy, a constant growl unless the vehicle was turning left (the donut was on the front passenger side). This means my donut cannot be used unless I want to damage my differentials and I only have 17"s. I have USAA and they will send for towing at no cost. However, what if it is after hours and the distance from home is greater than 100 miles? I'd prefer to have a spare.

I have 18" instead of the stock 17" but the tires I used have the same rolling size as the 17" so the spare would work fine..

I thought the same thing. Mine came stock with 16", and my 17" are supposed to be same rolling diameter. It may be a good idea to test your spare with your 18" wheels, assuming you are quattro. Regardless, it is your car and this thread really was never about this.

I removed my spare completely and installed my Phatnoise where the tire used to be. My wife is a supervisor at AAA Oregon. Between the two of us we get 8 tows a year up to 100 miles, so no worries for me. Just join AAA. They'll send you a flatbed if you ever need it. If you ever run out of gas, they'll bring you some. Kill your battery, the'll give you a jump. Not including the discounts at hotels, resorts, and some retail stores.

i have one of my old 17" TSW wheels with a pirelli p6000 on it. i had to hack up the trim piece below the rear threshold for it to fit, but it works. also the threaded tie down wont fit, but it never thunks or vibrates.
