Why not remove the door lowers from the car to paint them?

it wasn't too hard to do it that way. Plus i really didn't know how. It seemed a lot easier to leave them on.

no the door sill is black, when you open the door there is a perfect line between the black and the silver. It looks good

JMG:
it wasn't hard, if you are decent with a spray can, it only cost me 15 bucks compared to 300 or so for a shop to do it
xburbx:
Yeah i noticed those hanging peices when i was done, im gonna go back and repaint them black.

...or cover them up too. If the paint is glossy, you don't want those lower nasty parts "blinging" on you =P
Glad to see it's turning out well! Kinda fun to watch it take form eh?

Do most guys paint the sill as well? Does it look weird say in a Santorin color? I still need to do that to mine.

I have always wondered about doing it myself but thought I would get crappy results... I'd like to know how well this holds up over a year.

I'll keep everyone posted, it looks like its gonna hold up pretty good. If it starts to come apart i can always sand it down and give it a fresh coat for cheap im thinkin. It should hold up though.

I've had it done for over a month, which isn't a lot, but it's definitely worth it. Even if it does start coming apart in a year, I would happily take a weekend to do it over again.
It only has to hold me over until I get my S4 anyway =D

So did you prep it or just get some spray paint and mask of the areas and spray it...
It just doesnt seem like it would be so easy...
i'd like to know the details how you did it, if you prep it or you just applied paint. I dont want to mess it up so any help would be greatful.
Looks good...did yousand all the parts down first? how many coats?

Step by step process: (Takes about eight hours total)
1) Wash the area and get all the dirt and grease off
2)Wet sand with 600 grit sandpaper (takes about twenty minutes per part, i.e. one side of the car or the rear)
3)Wipe clean with soft rag
4)Mask off car with tape and newspaper like in the pics
5)Spray with Duplicolor Adhesion Promoter made especially for automotive plastic
6)let dry for two minutes, apply a second coat of adhesion promoter, let dry for like 5 to 10 minutes
7)Spray thin even coat of automotive spray paint, let dry for a few minutes then spray second thin, even coat.
8)Let Dry for one hour
9)Spray Clear Top Coat let dry an hour
10)Drink a beer and admire.

If you want another color, just go to www.levineautoparts.com and order flex primer, then some base coat of your paint code, and finally some clear coat. Scuff it, put 2 coats of flex, 3-4 coats of base coat, and 4-5 coats of clear coat (especially down along those panels) and be done. Mask off your wheels and the entire painted surface of the car, or you'll be sorry.
Paint + materials should run you about $35. If it were me, I'd let it cure a week.
