Noob '07 Avant owner...picked it up late last month here in C-bus. Brilliant Black (sorry -- no mods planned since I'm leasing) but I did decide to tint it front & back. My Audi dealer referred me to a local tint shop and they quoted me $200 for 7 panels. The tint brand is Formula One and I went with 50% up front (Ohio's legal limit for fronts) and 20% on the rear 5 windows. Looks very nice...except when I took her home to wash off the residue from the exterior window wash, I noticed a series of long horizontal scratches and a few vertical smudge scratches, too. I called ASAP and spoke to the owner. He told me his guys use some kind of "fabric softener" to clean the exterior windows as a prep to tinting and what I was seeing was streaking. I told him "with all due respect that is not the case. Someone in your shop had scratched my car." He then asked me to bring it to him in the a.m.

So what what would you do? I am not interested in throwing wax, etc. on top to "fill" the damaged area. Cross-posted over on AZ's detailers forum but yielding zero responses so farhttp://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/Steiner_album/DSC03872.jpg.

I'd see what he has to say first...

The top third is the back hatch glass, the middle thing is the rear wiper blade assembly, and the bottom third is the section of the hatch body that was scratched.

I posted in your thread in the detaling forum. In a nutshell...give him a shot, but don't hesitate to take him out of the equation if he doesn't instill confidence.

Thanks V.V. -- the issue has been resolved at tint shop's expense. He sent me to a local detailer who specializes in black cars. The guy seemed to do a nice job with is buffer and polishing agent. It's still not clear what the guys in the tint shop used to swipe down my rear hatch with, but I think they learned a tough lesson. Thanks for the input.

Buffing compound has saved me many times. What a goofy window tinting shop
