Why was the B5 RS4 only an Avant?

the rs2 was avant, so naturally the rs4 was an avant. plus avants are a lot more popular in europe than here (what i have been told)

perhaps thats why the b7 rs4 is a sedan in the US and they have a b7 rs4 avant in europe.

i dont know but i liked how the RS models were only in avants for a while. i thought it was kind of something cool about audi. maybe the "you just got dusted by a wagon" thing. plus avants are just plain sexy.

the RS2 was avant only
the B5 RS4 was avant only
i think the C5 RS6 sold more as an avant in other countries
the B7 RS4 looks better as an avant. it is a shame it is sedan only in the US.

and also b/c hot hatches and hot wagons are popular in europe.

the sedan and cabrio are available in europe, having been just over. I saw a lot of s4 cabrios, and then quite a few RS6 and RS4 avants. I didn't see many S4 sedans, but did see 1 RS4 sedan.

That's exactly it. And also it all started with muscle cars in the US back in the days and how they used to put the strongest engine in the most unsuspected mid-line chassis. Audi took the same idea and put a kick ass engine in daddy's station wagon so kids can say sir my daddy's wagon just walked your Mustang...

Good question, but I googled S6 or S6 Avant under Google images and found an old article from road and track or one of those magazines that only give good marks to american made cars... But obvioulsly it surprised me to read such a good write up and kept reading. I meant to just copy and paste it here but could not find the string again, I had to get back to work at the time.

the rs2(made before the rs4) was an avant only, too, and it was made in conjunction with porsche.
