has anyone just replaced the rear sub in a b5 avant with a better one without upgrading the amp? would that sound ok. or what are people doing for sound systems?

I asked this months ago... I tried to find a factory sub so I could make an aftermarket box out of it or put a different sub in it but I could not find one anywhere..

I made one too for my B6.. Its a 10" sub.. Its very time consuming to make one out of FG, but its soooooo worth it!! Its not that hard either..

that looks great. i have done some fiberglassing but i wasnt sure if i wanted to do that. or make a big box. is there enough room? i didnt really look at it. i was going to take out the stock sub box so i could to a bigger and have two tens. one in the original place and then one is the cd changer spot.
it looks great. thanks for the photos.

i just saw a really cool box on audi-sport that was in an a3 or an s3(8l). i am sure the idea could be applied in any avant(or really even sedans, too).
link to thread:

pictures of the box:

that is briliant.
if one of these fiberglass box makers would make a bunch of avant boxes (B6 please) and sell them for 200 bucks a pop he would be a bunch of money!

Hey that looks pretty awesome!
How bad is it to take the side panels off of the B6 Avant??
Looks like there is alot of room behind those panels...
I wonder if I can stick a couple of Amps back there! Or one on each side...
Any links/tips on removal??
Andy.

There is TONS of room behind those panels.. They are a bit tough to get out the first time, but after that its not so bad. Try doing a search, i know ive explained how to pop the panels out before..
Its one of those things you have to get over the fear of ripping your car apart, if you can do that your golden [:D]
Here's the other side along with some other pics..

Yeah I finished it - I haven't got a picture of it installed. I have it removed from the car now since I went back to stock (selling the car this summer). It sounded frikkin' awesome with my 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect in there. A 12" would not have left enough airspace in the enclosure...
It wasn't all that hard to make either - just messy and time consuming. I might be convinced to make a few if any B5ers wanted some. I made one for my older '98 sedan as well. Someone on Audiforums.com is using it right now I believe.

I may be able to do one in the spring. I've been wanting to relocate the phatnoise/changer and then pull the stock box and bag the area. My plan is to tape and mask the area and make a buck with a few heavy duty plastic bags and some expanding foam. That will include all the available area and can be trimmed down to fit or make molding easier. I'm thinking that kevlar with a carbon wrap would be light, strong, and sound great. A little acoustic treatment on the inside would deaden the sound like heavy mdf. The end result would look just like Saturnine's.
