Thanks! As for the camera, it's a cheap HP camera. It has settings to take pictures in a lot of different settings. I chose the night setting. It's very intuitive and says it turns off the flash and leaves the shutter open longer than normal. But it does need a tripod in this setting. If not, the pictures would be more blurry than it is now.

Ah, ok, I'm in the same boat with my Nikon - thanks. Even with the tripod it occasionally offers blurry results. I swear sometimes my old Canon, with no "night portrait" mode took better shots by simply turning off the flash and letting it do its thing.
