i been having some recent problems with my steering wheel shaking. the car's a certified preowned and i havent had any remarkable difficulties since its purchase last june. a small vibration had been present for a while but it was really nothing too noticable until now. it gets worse at higher speeds and the answer is not: slowing down. just yesterday i had my tires rotated and balanced thinking it night remedy it but i was wrong. i dont know if something could be loose or if its the steering column or what. my knowledge of this type of problem is zilch. im going to make an appointment at the dealership for later this week, but i was wondering if anyone has any ideas or solutions. thanks.

That probably is your best bet. It could be a host of things, bad bushings, bad sterring rack, bad steering pump, etc..

Your best bet is to take a tech with you on a test drive. If needed it let him/her drive the car. And before you leave the dealership ask for the piece of paper that shows you what they'll be diagnosing on the car.

Let us know what happens.

Have you hit any big potholes recently?

My car shakes thanks to very slightly bent rim that caused one of the wheels to go out of balance and a tire to cup.

I agree with Gonzo, there isn't a whole lot you can do on your own. Just bring it in and take the tech for a ride if you can. Even if you knew what was going on with it, most of the things it could be (bushings, unbalanced rims, tire wear, etc) are pretty involved maintenance items that require alot of special tools and equipment. Then again, it could just be some loose or missing bolts... in any case, you have a warranty so use it. =)
