Ok, before I start bitchin I will let you all know that I am by far anywhere near being a mechanic. My skills suck, but I can change oil and air filters or atleast I thought I could till TODAY......It all started of screwed up anyway. I had to get up at 4 and take a group of Soldiers to Munich to catch a flight. I got back home crashed for about an hour and got up and started my day. I went to the car parts store to get an air filter and an oil filter. I asked for the bigger one and the guy acted like a d*ck and said there is only one for this engine. So I left and went to the Audi dealer beofre they closed at noon and asked the same and once again I got the same sh*t. The parts man said that the bigger one is only for the TDI and that I can“t use it. Well needless to say I got stuck with the small one. NEVER AGAIN!

The post I read was right about the oil change, 19mm for the drain plug, about 12 screws to come out to get to the oil pan, and so on. The post also stated that the filter was easy to get to, and it was. But let me tell you that sucker dripped oil on all kinds of stuff and me. I let the oil pan drain all the way out too before removing the BIG filter. Put the plug back in and put the SMALL filter on[:o] . Put the plastic cover on and went to the AIR FILTER!!!!! GOD DAMN that SOB ruinned my day!! I thought it would be alittle difficult, I thought wrong. That sucker is a pain. If anyone has an easy way to swap air filters please let me know!!! That air box has more detail than some cars al ltogether!!! I could not believe how much of a biatch it was. Am I the only one????

Now I am going to drink a Weizen and pretend today never happened!!! [rolleyes]

The airbox filter shouldnt have been as difficult as you experienced. I changed my filter to a K&N in 10 minutes. I think you need more sleep, thats all.

Fongaroos did a great how-to here http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4020&highlight=air+filter but the pictures werent coming up for me, maybe it will for you. If you need, Ill take new pics and post them.

Oil changes are $55 dollars at the dealer I got my car at. If it is as messy as it sounds, it may be worth the $55.

With everything including oil changes being covered for the first 3 yrs its not worth doing it on your own. In reality, you dont have to change the oil as often, especially considering from the factory they use synthetic oil now. Just make sure its level, top it off if not, drive on your way.

my suggestion to you if you do intend to do your oil change again is buy a case of the brake cleaner or similar spray can. Hose the crap out of that part of the engine bay and all parts that the oil dripped on you'll be greatful that you did later on down the line.

As for the air filter is is a PITA to do just because the clips are hard to get to especially the one closets to the firewall...but not completely difficult.

And get more sleep [;)]
