funny thing is i don't like the range rover because it is a ford owned company. If it was owned by nissan or someone else i would look at them again.

as far as i know Range is the only SUV around... look at the other "SUV"s out there and 99% of them (besides the FJ) will have some sort of disclaimer saying "not intended for offroad use"

Range Rover! I would never even consider buying a Porsche SUV. If I am spending that kinda money on a Porsche it will be in the form of a really fast 2 door. Range Rover has been building SUV's since before anyone even knew what SUV meant.

Range Rover got horrible realibility.

Being a previous LR owner here is my .03 cents.
Land Rovers have a horrible reliablity issue, you will hate how stupid shit always goes wrong with them BUT you will still fall in love with them (someone say Audi). In all honesty the fact that the British Royalty drives them and the British crests are in every dealership speaks volumes about the how refined and amazing they are.
I am a big Porsche guy but the Range Rover is just another beast, it is gorgeous outside and inside and unlike other cars it will actually take you places you didn't think would be possible. Get the Range you will put other modified off roaders to shame.
The Porsche is a great off-road SUV but when it comes to being refined or having a 4x4 heritage it doesn't. Heard somewhere that the first car most people saw was the Land Rover.

But yet they have been making the Range Rover for how long now?

But yet they have been making the Range Rover for how long now?
Length of production has no bearing on how reliable a car is, look at how long they have been making Audi's :P
Range Rovers have horrible reliablity but they are amazing.
Plus, the Range Rover doesn't look utterly stupid.
I hate the Cayenne's look. It looks like GM gave them their Aztek designers to help out.
The Range Rover may have reliability issues, but if you use it like an SUV is supposed to be used, then it's a great choice.
If you just want to pose on the streets (not calling the Porsche a poser mobile, just a poser offroad vehicle), get the Porsche Crapenne.
If you want fast, get the cheapily-built Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8.

Porsche, no competition....not to mention, porsche is the highest in quality out of all manufacters nowadays...better than toyota! Range Rover...well, let's just say 50% depreciation off the lot and forget about quality. Plus it's a BMW company....nuff said in my eyes.
Quattroman, you are a little behind the times.
Land Rover was last owned by BMW in 2000. Ford has been its owner ever since.
They did continue using a BMW powerplant though for a while after the transition.
Once more, if you plan on doing serious off-roading, the Range Rover is the way to go.

Well for the price they better have higher quality, but how can you compare a company that makes "low cost" cars and pumps out 3 times as many cars? That is comparing apples to oranges.

i LOVE the look of the Rover, but I would never buy one. My parents had an RR HSE...and i will tell you this with the utmost certainty (and the SC RR's are worse)...your RR will be in the shop more than it is on the road. they are beautiful for sure...but the trannys are weak, the engines crap out, the electronics issues make an Audi look reliable....you get the point here. i think they are the prettiest trucks on the road, bar-none....but i would never wish to see someone suffer as my parents did. they bought a third car (the RR was leased) so they could both drive when it was in the shop....and im being dead serious.
so....my vote goes to the porsche. its a bada$$ regardless!

If you're gonna go off-road in it, get an RRS. If not, stick to the Cayenne.

Oh sorry...I guess it's better because it's a Ford now? Hey, I'm just giving my opinion and if you wanna buy a Range go ahead but IMO it's a POS. And both of these cars are no off-roaders and likely would never be used as such.
Further to the comment about Porsche's quality by another poster above...how is it appples to oranges? Both of these cars cost the same give or take a few thoughsand...if Porsche has far superior quality, wouldn't that influence your choice? I'm not comparing Porsche to Toyota but merely stating that they have made great strides in quality and for a smaller manufacturer it is a big achievment.
I also didn't see anyone comment on the 50% hit you're going to take why you take the Range off the lot. They look cool but that's about it.

Porschle had a great history of producing only 2 door sports cars until they gave into the american ideal that every car company should make an SUV. Land Rover/Range Rover only makes SUVs, and have unquestionable off road ability.
Cayenne = 4 door porsche station wagon with ground clearance.
Range = SUV look with proven ability
Both are status symbols so if you're not leasing you're gonna hit a huge amount of depreciation as soon as a redesigned model comes out or the warranty expires.
ps. i only see women driving cayennes. the range is even becoming the rich housewives car of choice these days.

i doubt either will be used off road extensively and the cayenne Turbo does not struggle off or on road, even pulled on a few vettes with it [up]
it is a confidence inspiring SUV even around corners or over 160, porsche doesnt lie when they say its a true porsche

IMO the SC RRS looks 10x better than the Cayenne S but I like how the Cayenne S feels and handles better.
