View Full Version : How Difficult Is It to Install S4 Bi-Xenon Ecodes?

SP

Purchasing a S4 Ecode Bi-Xenon Kit and was wondering if these were Plug-n-Play. How difficult is the installation and was wondering if anyone had DIY on it. Any install or operation issues (i.e. autoleveling and such)?

TIA,
Oenophile

Its all plug and play.. Its a really tight fit on the passenger side thou, since the wiring harness *barely* has enough slack in it..

How mcu did you pay for it and where did you get it I might ask? The place that I am looking to get is going to charge me $1000 for Valeo PnP unit. Does this sound right?

I think he's taking about $1000 including ballasts and what not. At least I hope thats what he's talking about or else a $1000 is wayyyy to much.

The s4 bixenon's all should come with ballasts and bulbs. The ones that Saturnine got has ballasts and bulbs included.

Damn, how did you get D2S blubs??? I wish mine had come with those, there are waaaaay more bulb choices for D2S..

hun? not all xenon plus comes with D2S? isn't that standard in europe?

Saturnine

The 4 sets of Bixenons that ive had all had D1S blubs..

weird.

[confused]

From what I know, they all come with D1S bulb. Valeo did not make any D2S bi-xenon projectors.

I have tried. My wiring harness on the passenger is not long enough at all.

I would have to build an extend harness to go with it. Now I have only the driver side working. [:(]

Check your Bixenons out.. they are Valeo's..

Hey man, on the driver side, did you have to relocate some other wire harness before you get put the headlight in??

I have to move some wiring harness otherwise it wont fit. How did you do yours?

If you look on the inside of the pass side fender withthe headlight out, there should be a plastic clip that holds that harness in. Take the harness out of that clip, and it should give you some slack. Then, as you push the housing in, connect the harness as soon as you can and push it all teh way in.

Feel like almost breaking it.. you dont want to have a tight wire because wire will be hardened and degrade as it ages, you dont really want to stretch it too tight or else you may have a bad wiring harness which will be costly to replace later, especially when you have electrical problems.[:(]

I am trying to build an plug and play extension harness with OEM parts. Researching right now. I am half way done.

Having only 1 light sucks.

It's not tight enough to cause any sort of degradation. It's taut for sure, but not tight enough to cause rubbing and degredation.

John,

Do you have autoleveling on your car??

Oh you sure? coz mine is tight enough to cause rubbing... Can you take a picture of how you route the wire?? maybe I am doing something wrong here.

I see. Nevermind.

I dont and I am also researching how to get manual leveling to work. I got all the parts for that just need to see how to wire them together also. Just checking.

Wait. Manual leveling? you mean the adjustment screws on the top?

No. Manual leveling is different from auto-leveling.

In Germany, all A4 with halogen headlight have manual leveling, which means inside the cabin, there is a oem knob switch in the dash that let you adjust the headlight level, up and down with 4 different step level. The switch is somehow connect to the manual leveling motor inside the headlight.

But for A4 with xenon headlight, they all have auto-leveling sensor build into the suspension and then sensor will talk to the ECU which then talk to the autolevel motor to adjust the level depending on the load of your car.

Once I can get it to work, I can adjust the headlight level up and down as needed.

ProtoColD
06-25-2004, 11:57 AM
and no... i am not talking about the adjustment screw in which they are used to align the headlight somewhat.

Manual leveling is another stuff..

I have seen some people have retrofitted manual leveling even on their xenon car which already has autoleveling, they make something to override the autoleveling which is kinda cool.

Saturnine

Ahh cool.. I cant put that manual adjustment knob in there anyways, my sub level knob is there already[:D]

I need to reverse engineer the switch and need to find out what pin go to what and then how to hook it to the little motor.

How can you adjust the headlight horizontally AND vertically??

after the headlight is installed on the car, you will ONLY see 1 adjustment screws... is that for horizontal or vertical?

What about the other one??

Saturnine
06-26-2004, 10:07 AM
The second adjustment screw isnt in the same place as US-spec etc.. If you look near the turn signal side of the light, there is a hole in the fender.. That's the new place where you stick the Allen key to adjust the vertical/horizontal (i cant remember which) position..

Take a look at the other light if you havent installed it yet..

ProtoColD

ya i see that when i have the headlight out.. but it was covered when I put the headlight in..[confused]

am i doing something wrong?

So here is my solution for the short wiring harness on the passenger side, One end plug right into the original harness, the other end plug into the headlight. This is made of 100% pure OEM Audi parts:

Here are the finished pictures:

Passenger side:

Driver side(I have to take off the wire retainer that hold the harness in order for the headlight to fit in good), the space is now perfect:

Interesting.

Are you planning to make your extension harness available to the public? I might need one if my bi-xenon install gets too difficult.

Yeah. I will probably make it as one of my available product. [:D]

Better do it this way than stretching/modifying the existing wiring.

I have the S4 Xenon Ecodes, they were a complete plug and play install. But the S4 Xenon-Plus Ecodes is larger unit (due to the more complex xenon light) so its a tight fit bit once its in, its not that hard. By the way, that price seems pretty good, the only reason others got such good prices is b/c they bought them from ebay.de, but for a store to be selling them at that price, that seems fair.
