I have been looking for a new car [:(] (yes i know sad but my lease is ending soon and i am looking to getting something a little cheaper. In case you guys were wondering what i was considering, I am looking at a new gti or gli leaning more towards the gli, maybe another a4, evo, and until today a mazdaspeed 6.) I went to a dealer and took one for a testdrive. I was expecting good things as the car is 4wd and has 274 hp. Granted, the car was brand new (6 miles) so everything was still breaking in (shifter was still really notchy, etc), but i was not impressed with the quality or power of the car. It was not slow, but i expected more from it. It was very loud and almost sounded like something was going to break over bumps, and there was a lot of road noise. This experience helped me realize i am most likely going to stick with audi or vw. On a different note, i test drove a gti yesterday and absolutely loved it. I loved the seats and steering wheel, and was surprised with the gti's power. Sorry to rant but to sum it all up, i was disappointed with the mazdaspeed 6 and loved the new gti. Any of you guys feel the same way?
And for some b6 content: I blew my first coilpack yesterday!!

As a previous GTI owner myself (2002 GTI VR6 GLI), I can only say so much about how great the GTI treated me. I had the opportunity of test driving the new one and boy did I love it. It's even better than my MKIV! I highly recommend it! The 2.0T is the perfect motor for that chassis.
If they make a 2.0T version of the MKIV Golf, I'll definitely hit that shit. I could use an extra car to take over commuting duties for the Tacoma. Either that or if a 4 door GTI comes out, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I ran a Mazdaspeed6 a few weeks ago, WAY WAY slower than I was anticipating.
Ran from 2nd gear, pulled 3 cars on him in 2nd, granny shifted into 3rd, let him catch up, laid into it again and jumped another 3 or 4 cars on him through 3rd! He didnt look too happy and his GF in the passenger seat was PISSED! [:D]

I agree with you on the build quality of any Mazda. My friend has a standard Mazda 6 and the fit and finish of the car is very poor. On the other hand my brother just purchased a MKV GTI and it is an absolute blast to drive. The DSG is also a must have feature. As a whole package the car is awesome.

I drove the speed 6 in the summer and was also NOT impressed. for 274 hp it was not that fast. the clutch had the worst engagement point EVER! interior was nothing to write home about. dollar for dollar you would be better off getting a g35 then a speed 6. Everything that comes standard in a g35 is optional in a speed 6.
After the test drive was over, all i could smell when i exited the car was clutch.... i've never smelt that much clutch since my first time driving manual. i even stalled it!! ME!! STALLED IT!!
It made some strange noises every once in a while during the test drive... me and my friend just looked at each other and said "wtf"

The 4 door is already out, I have seen quite a few of them on the road already.
Edit: A4ringedONE8T beat me to it.

If I were to get one it'd be just like this one. I'm lovin those seats too. I'd slap on a set of 18x8 Rial Daytonas, get some GIAC programming, exhaust, and leave it alone. 200+ WHP in a nice little package [up]

Thanks for giving me a heads up guys. I wasn't paying attention to what was going on with them lately as I just started a new job and moved into a house, so I've been pretty busy. We'll go see it Saturday hopefully.

yea i thought the gti was a blast. That car was even faster than i expected. Mazdaspeed 6 was just kinda disappointing on all accounts. And i know exactly what you man with that clutch engagement point...Horrible! IMO, the vw was a much better put together car, and for the money i would not hesitate taking a gli over a speed6. Going back to the dealer saturday to price out a gti and gli. Although i love the gti, im not sure i see myself driving a hatch, however it would take some work for me to get the jetta to look how i would want it to (not crazy about the mk5 body style).

The Jetta is gonna look really good with a little work, it just needs a few more years and some guys will be making them awesome

I can sum up the clutch engagement point as trying to balance one BALL BEARING on-top of ANOTHER BALL BEARING. it was just never the same twice, and never 'right'.
and the jetta is ugly, its looks like a corolla. fun car to hoot around in. but still corolla-ish.

The GLI is cool but im gonan have to agree it is kinda ugly it looks like a corolla
as for the GTI I love that car, my friend has the mazda speed 3 boosting like 17 psi
and tne GTI pretty much stayed with him so i give the new GTI's mad props i love those little things i would get one in a heart beat
My brother just picked up a GTI, and I must say.... I am jealous

i saw some modded gli's at waterfest and loved them. I agree in stock form they arent that great but i think it has a lot of potential.
