so what you are saying is that you can use this on an automatic car that initially didn't have the paddle shifters?

Correct, my car did not have paddle shifters when I installed it, All i had to do was enable it with vag-com (all it is is placing a check mark in a box marked paddle shifters) and good to go. Or the dealer could enable it for you. I also noticed at least on my car it shifted faster with the paddle shifters than the shifter.
